Default Wheel spacer question (not just a what fits)

So trying to figure out wheel spacers for sport rays and if I even want them. It would be nice to go a little flusher but not wanting to have any ill effect on handling so doing the math vs the Nismo rays (a known good) a 13mm spacer front and rear would equal the same outer distance since both rims are .5 wider and 7mm less offset so 12.7/2 = 6.35, 6.35+7= 13.35. So I guess a 15 would be the closest option for outer limit. Question is though by doing that I am moving my whole wheel centeriline out 15mm where the Nismo centerline is only getting moved out by 7? What effect is that going to have on my scrub radius for handling?

It's odd the two models have different scrub radius I would think they would have tried to keep them closer?

Just trying to figure out the best track width/spacing for handling and not picking up any bad characteristics.

Most conservative people run 10 up front 15 in the back. More aggressive will go 15 front and 20 in the back

I run 15s all around for several year now with no issues!

Yup initially on Tein's, now on coils. The Tein's are drop more than Swifts but not as much as H&R.

Ok so looks I may go 10 all around. I re did my math and modeled in solid works to re affirm that the distance wheel center to hub flange is 7mm and the inside rim to rim is = on Nismo vs Sport (actaually Nismo is like almost 1mm wider but close enough) so the center to center is 14 mm wider on the Nismo and the extra 1/2 inch is all to the outside on the Nismo.

Again this wasn't a what fits post I know people can fit all the way to 20 non lowered and I think 15 lowered but I was more worried about the effects of increasing the + scrub radius that much. So with 5mm I'll still be 2mm less than a Nismo (factory known good) and make sure I'll have no instability under braking or steering wheel kickback and with 10 I am just 3mm more scrub radius than a Nismo so that should be pretty minor, I think people with Miatas don't feel the negative effects of too much scrub radius until about 10mm over stock.

I heard Spacers will give the Wheel Bearing extra load, making the lifespan of the Wheel Bearings shorter.

So 15's lowered is fairly conservative, would be like 10's stock.

They will but if you do the math and look at the Nismo setup you will see it runs a wider stance center to center so that's why I was looking at spacers as there is some room for play be a known good (factory car isn't going to come with a setup it can't support, usually)

Madeinjapan again you post in a thread without reading. None of those threads mention scrub radius or the effects of the spacers on scrub radius with 5,10,15,20 spacers. As I put from the very beggining NOT A WHAT FITS QUESTION. people put things on their cars all the time without fully understanding what the effects are and then have to battle with quirky handling issues, I am trying to avoid that and gain as much usable track width as possible. Does anyone know if from the factory the z is - or + scrub radius to begin with?

is this a track car? i mean. . . unless you are hardcore racing, there's no effect that spacers will have on your car that isn't vastly outweighed by driver performance

So its neat that you're asking about "scrub radius" but in practice . . . it dont matter

Okay so, there are really no issues running spacers regardless of whether you track your car or not and for the most part wider is better to a point lol. Cooltoy was pretty much spot on at the beginning. For Nismo wheels the most used set up is with 15mm all around. Some will go with 20mm up front for a flusher fit. For sport rims most go with 20mm all around and some will do 25mm up front. You should have no issues with rubbing or wheel alignment unless you go super low. For oem wheels, you really don't need to over think is as that territory has been covered in depth.
