are 45mm spacers SAFE??????

so i got my rims powder coated, wheels and tires installed, but the rears look bad and the shop measured it and said 45mm would make it flush, but ive been searching online and most ppl are saying there not safe and some ppl worry about even smaller spacers like 15-20mm let alone 45mm !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now im bummed i waste money to powder coat when i should have just bought new rims wide enough without the need for spacers.

i think he said go with H&R spacers. but are those the best?

size he stated i need is 12x1.25 stud, 66.1 hub core, 45mm hub centric

ChaseZ 07-23-2016 02:23 PM

I didn't even know they made spacers that big. Personally that's far more than I'd be co for table with. Is it safe, I don't know that answer specifically.

Sorry to confirm what you already know and need to do.

The unfortunate lesson here is to always try to figure out how they're going to fit besides they look good.

What are the specs?

45mm spacers are just unsafe imo and I would not recommend using them.

Aces1121 07-23-2016 03:24 PM

I'm going to be running a 2" spacer pretty soon

I've got 245/35/20 and 275/30/20. The tire was recommended by guys on this thread and theyvery got a ton of good reviews, they even said you can go install it anywhere you want.. great.. now what do I.. I'm still learning things about cars.. wish I knew about the rims being flush before I paid to get them powdered...... sigh

Zeetah 07-23-2016 03:36 PM

If 45mm is unsafe, then is there a size thats guaranteed safe ?

20-25 is pretty common around here.

synolimit 07-23-2016 06:16 PM

It's safe and I run them! Just need to make sure the hardware is correct! I have 190,000psi ARP studs holding them on and they came with 10.9 studs holding the wheels to them with red locktite. Spacers have been used for years and years ago. 2" plus! You'll be fine.

Looking at that picture you posted I cant possibly fathom why anyone would tell you that 45mm spacers are the way to go... Unless you told them you want your wheels to poke out an inch and a half past your fenders. Posting your actual wheel specs would help figure out how much of a spacer you actually need, if any.

andy_meng1024 07-24-2016 03:54 AM

I saw a RWB Porsche cup car with 80mm spacers in the back last week. He's been racing for a couple seasons, so I guess it's fine.

they measured it and said 45mm would make it flush with the fenders

Zbrah 07-24-2016 01:05 PM

What are your wheel specs? I'm assuming you have the base 18's otherwise the tech is on dope.

if thats the lucky #, than i might go with that.. not sure if its worth it tho? bc 20-25 wont make it flush and not sure how much better it will look or not?

You can't measure it. You need at add your wheel specs into an online calculator and then add what it will be with the spacer. That'll tell you your poke. Then you can measure or figure out if it'll hit the fender or such. I highly doubt unless you have a wide body a 45mm will work!

i got my stuff done at a reputable tire shop suggested by guys on here and plenty others, they said they did something along the lines of jacking something up and they measured the space between the tire side wall and fender and said 45 mm would be perfect and still give me room to play around without rubbing

Zeetah 07-24-2016 07:50 PM

everyones saying H&R spacers are really good

Zbrah 07-24-2016 08:49 PM

****...what are your wheel specs?

Zeetah 07-24-2016 09:20 PM

I mentioned the size but don't know the offset, there stern st2 rims 20 inch

madeinjapan 07-25-2016 07:10 AM

we arent talking a 20 + a 20 + a 5 right?

daily use perfectly fine

drag strip use nah (ebay spacers will break)

That's not a good way to do it. You need your offset and give it to us. It's really easy then!

Save your money
Buy better wheels

Zeetah 07-26-2016 02:15 PM

im still a newb in aspects related to cars and this was another costly mistake, like some have stated, and if i knew i would have just bought different rims that were flush with the fender. im either going to get H&R 20-25mm (the size most Z owners have gone with) or i might just leave it as is. live and learn.. :(

thanks for all the feedback guys

Sounds like you have learned your lesson. It happens even to the best of us sometimes. Good luck with your build and future mods :tiphat:
