Default Kumho PS91

Time to get new tires for the Z and saw some good, although not a whole lot, of reviews on this tire. Anyone have these on their Z that can provide some input on them? Visually, the tread looks a bit like michelin PSS. Much appreciated

Does look like a nice pss clone. Be interesting to see if anyone has actually tracked them to see how they really stand up.

They aren't designed for track use so I wouldn't give the opinion of anyone who bought those tires for that purpose much consideration.

Well the pss aren't made for track use either but can still see occassional track days so that would put it in the same catagory at least I think they both fall in the same (max performance summer).

There is far more to a tire than just tread pattern. The tire construction and rubber compounds are very important for performance.

I'd go with the Bridgestone RE-11. It is a well proven tire.

The last set of Kumho tires I had were not very good. They worked fine on my truck, but not on my Z.

Right. I am aware it's not just tread pattern, the compounds used are much more important than anything else that's what I was leading to when wondering if anyone has actually tested them as a max performance tire.

As for DD use, the RE-11 has great wet weather performance but these tires are not intended for cold weather use. Yes, they will drive in cold weather but the performance drops way off once you get below 40 degrees. San Jose shouldn't be a problem.

I highly recommend that you check out the Kumho tire you are inquiring about at TireRack.com. They have very good reviews and I consider it a must visit site before selecting tires.

Tires are expensive and a bad tire on a good car makes for a bad driving experience.

Yeah, tire rack is the way to go, its just that there arent much reviews for the tire just yet. However, i did see a Z owner giving it about 4 stars, i think!

interesting, several good reviews(not many miles though) treadwear is 260 vs 300 MPSS,,,might be a contender..their about $100 cheaper per tire,,something to condsider.

The re-11 may be a good tire but it's also a bit of overkill for a dd tire. I mean a r comp pure slick may be a great summer tire and have awesome grip but will you really notice it driving down 101?. I would say you don't need an re-11 unless you are actually going to track otherwise you will never see it shine and will just wear out quick for no noticeable enhancement.

I am looking at these tires for my DD after I wear the P zeros that came on it. Personally, I take tires very seriously and before buying my DD I was researching the replacements available and found Kumho to be one of the options available when tire change due. I think the current reviews are promising, and found other reviews from Europe and Australia to have same impressions.

It may not be the best in category but it may be pretty good for the price, will know with time about long term use as they are new in market.

Don't forget the S-04 Bridgestones. To me, this is the perfect DD tire. Still works pretty well in the cold. Dry and wet traction is VERY good! Quiet too. Price is very reasonable.

I'm thinking I may go with the PS91 as well. I'm usually the first to say, "Buy once, cry once" but I've found that even some of the bargain bin tires can be used for spirited driving. My own personal experience with a off brand were the Fuzion Sport UHP tires and I've used them on the Dragon(US129) as well as Devil's Triangle HOWEVER that being said this is my first high horsepower application so I may just save up for the Mich PSS. My vehicle is not a track weapon, it's a DD with occasional spirited driving and once the fuel pump and oil cooler are installed, auto-x.
