TPMS issues '09 Sport to '15 Nismo Rims
I have a '09 Sport Touring, but recently purchased a set of almost brand new (~1.5k miles) Nismo rims & tires off of a forum member here. He left the stock TPMS in them, so it seemed like everything would work out... but, as always, it's never that simple.
I got them mounted and took them to the Nissan dealership to have the TPMS reprogrammed to accept the new signal. The service tech came back after a few minutes and told me that the TPMS' in the new rims is either broken or defective, but I'm thinking it's a backwards compatibility issue. (I remember hearing that Nissan did some sort of TPMS system change/upgrade around '10.) Like I said, the Nismo rims and tires are almost brand new and haven't been messed with. They were shipped well and I just have trouble believing that they are all broken/defective already. I still have the TPMS from my old Sport 19's, so I can try switching them into the new Nismos, but according to Nissan, that'll take about 2 hours of labor (~$200). Anyone else had this issue? Anyone have a workaround or solution? I'm hoping that this is actually just the Nissan dealership not knowing exactly what they're doing. It wouldn't be the first time. Either way, they do look good. |

You can try programming yourself with the white plug under the steering wheel. Do a search. See if that works. Or take it to discount tires. They reprogram them for a small fee. Good luck.

You have no choice but to do that. Maybe a tire shop could do it cheaper. You can recover some of the money by selling the sensors from the Nismo.

They are not. I am sure they are OEM and have never been removed from the wheels.
You can always refund the money if they end being no good. Lots of people sell them here. Maybe ask the dealer if there is a way to check them.

I can assure you the sensors are in fact not defective so reselling them should not be an issue. Since the older model Z's have different part numbers for the TPMS I believe that is the issue. Please keep me posted though, if you encounter some issue with them being defective or broken I'd like to know. The tires were never unmounted and they worked as they should on my car. Keep us posted

Original ('09) TPMS sensors installed this morning into the '15 Nismo Rims/Tires and everything is back to normal and working perfectly.
As I mentioned before, the Nissan dealership quoted me roughly $200 to switch the '15 TPMS out for my originals. Tires Plus did the parts, labor, taxes, and the full switch for under $60 out the door. Just one more tally mark against the Nissan dealerships in my mental record of "things that suck". Seriously, how can they make such good vehicles and have such awful, uninformed, and generally useless dealerships? It's sad (but telling) that the best interaction that I've ever had with ANY Nissan dealership has been when they didn't charge me to figure out that they couldn't help resolve the problem. |

Gerg - did you end up getting a new set of sensors from the tire shop? Just wondering how much that cost you? I also bought a set of '15 Nismo rims that I am going to install this week. They do not have sensors in them. I was debating whether to have my 18" tires dismounted to get the sensors off and have them installed on the Nismo rims. It sounds like it may be cheaper just to purchase a new set of sensors, have them installed, and leave my 18's alone.

I ended up having my old tires dismounted and my old TPMS inserted into the new Nismo rims. I cost about $60 at Tires Plus, which is way less than what new TPMS would have cost me. Plus, since they were the original TPMS from my car, they were pretty much guaranteed to work (and without any reprogramming of the sensors).
