Is there any point in rotating the tires?

By the most common definition, tire rotation means front to back + criss cross (i.e., front driver to rear passenger). Therefore, by the most common defintion, changing a tire to

Therefore, by the most common defintion, changing a tire to the other side of the same axle it was on to begin with is not a rotation which makes it pointless.
