stuck between a couple tires

so time to get new rubber on the z. i drive the car only on nice days. occasional back road spirited driving or auto x. but 98% street use.

i'm looking at these 3 currently:

Hankook ventus v12
Tire Details - Discount Tire Direct

nitto invo's
Tire Details - Discount Tire Direct

BFgoodrich G force comp-2 A/S
Tire Details - Discount Tire Direct

in a perfect world it would be some pilot super sports. but yea kno... $$$. so could anyone with some experience chime in with some pros and cons of one or each of these?

Thanks in advance

Recently in the same boat and went with Potenza S0-4. Won't install until spring, but from what I found, they are a pretty good tire in the same price range as V12.

I had the Invo's on a S2000 and they were ok. I enjoyed the S-04 much better. In fact, that's probably my favorite street tire outside of maybe the PSS. I'll be going with the S-04 when it's time for a new set, but between the 3 you've posted I'd probably go with the hankooks

JARblue 01-04-2016 04:53 PM

I generally keep Invo's on the Z for daily driving. For several years now. I doubt they are quite as good in the dry as the S-04's - I haven't yet had an opportunity to try those out. However, I can tell you from personal experience driving two different Z's on the same day at COTA, one with with Invo's and one with V12's, that the V12's are garbage :barf:

And don't put all seasons on a sports car; if you want to drive it in the winter, get some winter tires :twocents:

kenchan 01-04-2016 04:53 PM

yah, get the S04's. 245/40/19 and 285/35/19.

Memphis370Z 01-04-2016 05:08 PM

I briefly considered the V12s, but just ordered a set of S-04s Saturday after doing my research.

My friend has those hankooks and he really likes them. It feels very grippy when I ride along in his 2012 wrx hatch.

Exactly my choice.

edub370 01-05-2016 07:52 AM

why am i not seeing S-04's show up on discount tire? i'm going with 265/35/19 up front and 285/35/19 out back. i can find them but only thru other sites. (ehh, oh well i guess)

i hadn't ever considered s-04's before.

edit: also, thoughts on rear tire size? i'm kind of stuck between 285/35 and 305'30's out back. keeping in mind i will have a 265/35/19 up front.

9.5 and 10.5 wheel widths

JARblue 01-05-2016 08:19 AM

If you're running 265/35/19 up front, I would go with 305/30/19 to keep the stagger as close to OEM as possible. Unless you have other goals.

I'd say nay to Hankook. I went through several sets before settling with Continental tires, which grip better and lasts longer. Unless something changed, Hankook tires gets slippery when it starts to wear. My Continental tires are over 3 years old, is needing replacement in a few months, but still grips very well. I hardly slip in the rain, and this is just daily driving.

North of 12k miles, and I'm really stretching it since I need to get the shock dampers replaced soon. Over a year ago I used a repair kit on one of the tires and it held up well since.

My Hankooks barely lasted 8k miles, and it's far less than 2 years. The more it slipped, the faster it started to wear out. The tires listed in my description were the ones I had. I went through at least 3 sets before switching to Continental Extreme Contact DW. At the time of purchase, the Continental tires were actually cheaper.

My car has been through enough, so I rather not drive it in the snow. :p

I just bought this set up 2 days ago from Discount tire total cost was around 1050 installed. 265/35 and 285/35. These are very quite compared to my worn out stock tire. The grip is great at low speeds and changing lanes. Steering feels a tad lighter and when I go fast on the longer toll road turns here I feel a little bit of looseness from the 370z but it stays planted. The fit is almost perfect if you do not like the tire to stick out from the side to much. From what I hear you can always get poly diff bushings to stiffen things up a little. I have around 140 miles so far so they are prob not broken in either. Hope this helps. :tiphat:

datz good. i put away my cars long before the village starts spraying the icemelt crap.

enrique_370 01-06-2016 10:19 AM

The 400 plus you save over PSS can just go towards some coilovers eventually :)

edub370 01-06-2016 10:48 AM

meh the swifts with whitelines sways work now.

now for another question on fitment. my current tsw's are a +27mm with a 15mm spacer. will i have any issues rubbing a 305 in the rear?

geddy lee 01-06-2016 11:44 AM

Yeah Kenchan, I had the Conti DWS and they completely sucked in the snow, even less than an inch of snow. Ended up buying PSSs at the beginning of Spring and they were awesome all summer. Decided to just not drive in the snow and so far here in Delaware we haven't even had any snow.

What's the current width of your tire? The width is in millimeters, so you should be able to get a rough idea. I have 265/35 up front, and the tires can rub the fender liner creating a hole from full spring compression. That's not from tracking it either... just crap freeways, and that probably contributed to blowing out another one of my OEM shocks.

Once I replace the shocks, I plan to go back to 265/35 and 305/30 setup (currently sitting on 285/35). Continental has 305/30 tires available for the Extreme Contact series:)

edub370 01-07-2016 11:17 AM

shoot, i was planning on running 265's up front. hearing about rubbing issues may make me reconsider.

although, i hadnt heard many others having rubbing issues with 265's

DIGItonium 01-08-2016 08:16 AM

I had 275/35 up front before. It was awesome with the fatness, but it rubbed a lot. 265/35 would only rub if you hit some nasty dips causing full spring compression. I'm on stock shocks, so maybe it's part of the reason.
