Drivability issue with new rears

So, since I've had new rears put on (it's been two weeks now)...

The RE760's made the car undriveable. 50+ I could not keep it in the lane, the car was just floating everywhere. They also took off the front wheels thinking I was doing all four, then put them back on - so not sure if something was damaged then.

Got S0-4's on and at first they put them (OEM size, rears) on the front wheels and tried to give me the car back, and I had to have them change it. The "floating" feeling is better, but still at 50+ under acceleration it's doing the same thing (just not as extreme). Corning is not as "on rails" feeling anymore, and there's a click from the front suspension every time I take off (say from a stop light, normal driving) or make a turn.

I couldn't find anything loose or the like in there, and Discount Tire can't find anything, and the alignment is perfect... I don't know what it could be that's causing this? Could a bearing be out? Could they have damaged it?

Any ideas?

Bastards also damaged my wheels, so I now have to go back in and be without my car for two days so they can re-powdercoat them.

I was running spacers prior to this (put on new, longer studs that came with) for about 6-8 months. Have had these wheels for about a year and a half now.

Air pressure right on both front and rears? When we picked up the wife's car the morons put 45 psi in all four and the car felt really weird at highway speed. We took it right back and they found the problem. Something you might check.....

I suppose it's possible they damaged the bearing when they put the wheel back on. Given that most of the people that work at these tire places are morons when it comes to installing wheels on cars, breaking lug studs and stripping nuts..

Insist that they hand torque the lugs and forbid them to get near your car with a 'torque stick' regardless of what the 'manager' says about it's 'calibration'.... f'n idiots...

I believe it is, but I'll triple check it when I get home tonight.

I was pretty sure I saw the guy put in the proper PSI on the digital pump or whatever they have.

What's your rear toe set at? Any suspension mods? What size are the wheels and tires?

As for the rear toe -I'd have to assume OEM as well, I haven't changed any of that. Took it in to have the alignment checked and they said it was still perfect.

I've been doing a little reading up and it seems to be leaning in favor of wheel bearings, but I'm not 100% on that either - I may take it to a mechanic and have him check it out.

I'd check the toe. The Z gets weird with toe out or extreme toe in, in back. Most run a slight toe in out back. I run 1/16" (.0625) total rear toe in.

I put Hankooks on the rear to replace my potenzas and as soon as I drove down the street my traction and handling felt squirrely as f... it's scary to wot at highway speed now.

u need to break in the tires.

and just check the psi to ensure they are at around 35-36psi. too low and too high will cause instability.


most discount tires (america's tire) in my area have touchless mounters.

I'm taking it in to have it looked at on Friday, it seems to be getting worse.

How long should it take for them to be broken in? I've easily got two hundred (maybe even three) on them now and it's actually worse than before.

Oh, and about the touchless... they say they do, but when I asked how they got damage he said that it's because of the reverse mount process they use, where they put the wheel face down or whatever.

I don't know. I like the lower prices at Discount, but I'm almost willing to pay a little bit more somewhere else if I'm not going to get screwed, because now I have to take my car in to get it checked (one day) and find a ride home and back to the shop, then drop it off for another two days, find a ride home, to/from work for two days, then a ride back to the shop.

Discount is paying for the re-powdercoating, but what about my time and others that have to drive me around? **** them.

my re-11s took almost 500 miles to break in properly its the oils they dress them up in the factory with that soak into a fine layer on the tire

Just odd that I've never experienced this before with new tires, even on this car.

It's borderline undriveable. I am fighting the car to stay in the lane anymore.
