Slick Stock rear tires.
Slick Stock rear tires. I currently have Bridgestone Potenza S001 P285/35R19 on the rear. I have 20,300 miles on them and they are basically racing slicks now, is this normal tire wear ? Looking for some good rubber, any suggestions ?

PSS rears lasted me 12k and were straight cords on the inside 3" or so. RE-11 rears last set lasted 9-11k didn't remember to mark the mileage when put on. had maybe 3/32 when i swapped. this years set of RE-11's are at 8-9k miles haven't looked at the recently but i should. haven't been as mean to this set so maybe they have 4-5/32 left |
It depends on driving style a lot OP. I have about 15k on my OEM Potenzas and they are still in pretty decent shape.

I haven't even spun the tires yet. I drive 45 miles round trip to work daily.. So I guess i'll be changing the rears every year I suppose. Now my fronts still have meat and look pretty new.

the fronts are typically still at 80% life but i still do 4 new tires and save the fronts and rears (if theres life) as spares just in case. out tire sizes so having them ready to go when i need them is nice. |

currently around 7k miles on my re-11's and the rears are significanctly more worn than the front. hoping to get 12k or so out of the rears and closer to 15 for the fronts. i do drive fairly spirited when the conditions permit. |
tell me about it on those wet days.. Im starting to slide a lil while turning left or right when pulling off from a stop sign.. I was shocked to see racing slicks. That's a good idea FPenvy to at least save those fronts, I'll do the same.

also cornering was a bit skiddish at higher speeds wet or dry. you could start feeling the traction breaking. didn't notice any hydroplaning but i was only 5mph or so above the speed limit during those conditions if at all. stopping i didn't notice any issues. those tires had Quote:

Buy an expensive sports car, get bent over on tires. No surprises there.

To OP, it depends on your driving style alignment and road conditions. The S001 is an OE S04, and i would bet those are set to run out quickly. I registered 5 track days and 20Kmiles on my S04s and I have about 15K and 5 track days (MUCH MORE ABUSE) on my RE11s and they're just now getting to the wear bar.
What you experienced sounds normal. |
