New tires for a non-track/daily driver

It's just about time for me to get some new tires, I believe I have the Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sports that came with the car when I bought it. I tried looking around and there were a lot of recommendations. Continental Extreme Contact DWS, Hankook Ventus V12, Bridgestone S-04 Pole Position, among many others.

I don't track or race the car at all, it's just my daily driver a couple miles to work and going out every now and then. I put about 5k miles a year on it. I'm looking for something with great grip and if they're quiet that would be a huge bonus. I've read a lot of people say that the V12's are really quiet. Around $800-900 for a set of 4 would be ideal but up to $1000 would be alright.

Edit: I'm in California if that matters in regards to the tire, I know there's summer, winter, and all-season types.

The v12s are great in traction for half its life (5000 miles), then it's like hockey pucks. Any hard acceleration will result in a burnout.
I would go with so4 with your budget. If you have deeper pockets, go with PSS or a/s 3 Michelin

V12s are garbage IMO. S-04s are probably the best performers in your price range.

Just checked Costco and they're listing the PSS for $900 for a set of 4 vs $1100 on Tirerack. Unless maybe I'm missing something, I filled in the same things on both sites. 2009 Base w/ Sport Package.

The Z runs staggered tires. That $900 is for four front tires. I bet that price will increase a bit when you factor in the 275mm rear tires.

Edit: Costco doesn't seem to have 275/35-19 for the PSS.

In my experience (DFW spirited driving + light track use) RE760s are a decent tire. I get plenty of grip over virtually full life, moderate tread life (18-20K F / 10-12K R), relatively low noise and $900/set. Similar experience on my Z32-TT as well.

Looks like I'll probably end up buying the S-04, but during research I saw recommendations to get 285 on the rear. Something about them being narrower than stock, but whoever had the car before me must have put the RE760 Sport on instead of the stock RE050A.

Yes they are narrower get them 285. I had them install about a month ago it is a great tire

Going up a size isn't a bad thing. You should consider 255s on the front as well. Many run 265/305 on the stock sport rims. But of course, that size increase comes with a cost increase as well.

I used to run Michelin Pilot Sport All Seasons on my C6 for the street. Plenty of grip for any legal street driving and long life.

I'm not a huge car guy so I'm not sure how upping the size will affect everything. Is it better to up one if I up the other, and how much will it affect the steering/control of the car? Like I said it's my daily driver and I do no racing or tracking with it. I don't need to spend the extra money if it's not going to make a big difference for everyday driving. I've seen people with big tires on small sporty cars that make me surprised they can even turn.

If you're not pushing the car you shouldn't notice much difference. One of the reasons I prefer wider tires on my DD is to protect the rims a little more. Although some tires just look weird with the bulging sidewall.

I was actually looking into getting my rims refinished possibly. I love the RAYS but they've got some road rash.

Save some more money and get the PSSs, trust me , it will be worth the wait.
