I am new to this form..just purchased a 2011 base..question I have..the car currently has 225/50 on the front and 245/45 on the rear. I would like to move the 245/45's to the front and put 275/40's on the rear..can I mount the 275/40's on the stock rims..would like to do this swap but do not want to have to buy new rims...thanks for your input...

Wait r u trying to put 275/40 tiers on 225 rim? Then no you need rims those size.
But you can mount 245 wheels on the front and buy 2 275 rims on the back.

In order to attract responses from experts, it would be best to post in the wheels and tires section.
ibtm.

b. this makes zero sense. so my sport rays that come with a 275 rear tire.....not wheel (it's 10" wide wheel) I run 305's on. just fyi. sounds like base wheels if it's 225/245 stock tire sizes. also you can fit a bit wider on base wheels. I do believe some have gotten 245/275 on base wheels. not 100% on that one though.

Reason for asking because in another thread.... I knew someone moving the 275's to the front and mounting 305's in the rear on the oem sport rays

I guess if you are trying to go with one of the wider setups then I can see 305's in the rear , maybe even 325's. I think what is more important is the difference between the front and back. Stock setup is a difference of 30... So if I were to put 265's in the front ... I'd go with 295's in the back. 305's in rear ? Then 275's in front. So on and so forth. I guess the better question is .. Which is the better setup performance wise?

i'm running 265/305 (so are many other owners) and the set-up runs great. yes the stock sprot wheel set up is a 30mm difference between F and R. nismo setup (245/285) is a 40mm difference so it's perfectly fine. the thing to watch for is overall diameter differences between F and R. if you go too big on the gap the ECU will think the wheels are spinning and your traction control light will be on. 265/305 setup are identical in diameter on most brands that I've researched.

The rims I presently have are stock 18"....still confused...is there a YES or NO about my question in all these replies...remember I do not want to have to buy two new rims..if that is the case I will stay with the present set up..

with mine I feel a bit of the understeer is gone now. example look at a viper. 295 F and 355 R lol I would go through the "Will it fit..." thread and check if anyone has gone 275 on the 18" base wheel rears. I think someone has but i'm not 100%

I did this with my '09 coupe. The 275's will fit on the stock rear 18" rims and 245's on the front - no rubbing, no issues. The tires were Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's iirc.
