Sport Wheel Touch up Paint

I searched and found some threads from years ago but no DIY solution.

I dont need a professional job but just some remedy for touching up some scratches for my 370z sport rays. I know based on research the color is hard to match but curious if a touch up pen from any stock 370z color would work.

All I can say is, if you figure this out, for the love of god, man: share the news.

Probably your best bet is to have a shop mix up something they can match to it and buy that.

As far as I know, you can't just buy OEM touch up for it, but let us know if you find something.

That's what I was afraid I would hear.

From what I've seen Nissan keeps the paint code and mixture for their wheels closely guarded.

yep, it's a 2 stage coating. kinda like silver metalizer over black.

u'll have to get that professionally done.

why not use the 370z brilliant silver touch up paint pen from the dealerships? i picked up one for $20.

The sport wheels and the paint on the car color is identical ( i can run outside and double check). I am talking about the 2010 Silver 370z and non 40th edition sport rays. Should work for the base wheels also, not sure about the 2013+ twist style

I will have to look into that pen. I was thinking something like that could work. I have some touch ups to make nothing major - but will try a small area and see.

I'm pissed lol.

I don't have the greatest color perception, but I thought they were not even close -- I could be totally wrong (and hope that I am!)

By any wild chance, do you have touch up paint for your car and any curb rash to experiment with?

Even if it also needs (flat?) black as an undercoat, this would be a really nice solution.

Not too wild of a request, I actually have everything needed to conduct such an experiment. If you guys are interested, I can ask the wife to bring out the dslr and get some photos of the paint colors, and repairs

I would like to see.... Mine have scratches and this would be the most cost effective way to fix. I finally got a set of the rays sport wheels on my 350z after a couple years of searching for the perfect set. Of course I was dumb and scratched 3 of them while loading.

I definitely would like to see some photos of this diy fix.

Where can I get the pen? Seems like online thezstore and other z stores are out. Should I dare to go to the dealer?

yah, already tried it all. if i found something i wouldve already posted.
hyper silver is not simple metallic paint with flakes. think of it more of a satin chrome.

so the diy is:

Step1: Fix wheel professionally
Step2: Done!

He is correct. I cleaned a portion of the rim and the fender, and got a good look. They are defiantly different silvers. The paint on the car has a sparkle flake in it, and the rim's color is a darker flat type. Hard to describe, but I'll try to get the colors up here.

I sold my base wheels, but wonder if that color was the same, as I remember it being similar.

I own a chrome silver 350z , would that color have the metal flake in it?

Needless to say my girlfriend saw my rims and the scratch and was like "damnnnn you ****** up".

I tried to get some photos with my phone to show the difference, it was extremely bright out today.

my wife showed me this youtube vid of a girl making a dragon bracelet with polyclay where she used mica powder (makeup) to get this real nice metallic finish. the finish reminded me of the hypersilver color on our wheels.

have u guys checked any mica powders? i'd mix it with glossy clearcoat and dab it on. mica powder is much smaller than metallic paint flakes. might work? i dont have a damaged wheel to test it on. lol
