That is true, but the total spread on the scores is 7.47 to 7.84. It seems their scale is too compressed. If you look back at their summer tire comparisons over the past 3 years, the Michelin has beaten every tire, every year. I certainly can see your point regarding cost though... maybe not worth the extra money.

One other point, the Michelin has a tread wear rating of 300 vs. 280 on the Bridgestone. Not a big difference, but the Michelin should last a bit longer. Anyways, both good tires.

I am also looking at the s-04 285/35/19 for the rear, with the 265/35/19 in the front. I just wanted to check in for some opinions before I shipped them. All the threads I see make me believe they will fit fine on sport rays for DD :)

Yeh, it's a cost vs performance issue. My suspicion is that 99% of the Z owners can't drive their car well enough to even begin to take advantage of the marginal performance advantage of the PSS over the S-04.

OTOH, if we're talking about tread wear, the tread life implies real dollars, so if the PSS lasted twice as long as the S-04 (for example), they'd be a bargain despite the fact that a set of four is $340 more expensive. With a tread wear rating of 300 compared to 280 however....not even close.

When I bought my 2014 Z, I ditched the OEM RE050A's and put on the S-04s when the car had 5 miles on it. The S-04's were quieter than the OEM, and this early spring has demonstrated far better wet-road performance. As to dry road performance....I'm not a good enough driver to make use of any performance advantage of the PSS either. They would have been a complete waste of money for me.

I have a 13 Z that came with Yokohama Advans. Good Grip but expensive to replace. I do a lot of straight line hard acceleration (without wheel spin). The rear Avans lasted 17k and the front Advans went 26k. I installed the PSS rear first and then the front with the stock size 225 and 245. PSS front has excellent cornering grip wet or dry. They have only 1k miles so it is too soon to judge the tire life. The PSS on the rear exhibit the same exceptional dry and wet grip as the fronts, but they lasted only 10k under the same spirited driving conditions as the Advans.

I replaced the rears with Goodrich (Michelin’s budget brand) g force sport comp2’s. So far they exhibit wet and dry grip similar to the PSS. They are priced about $75 less than the PSS. For a good comparison chart go to TireRack.com and input your size, select Summer Passenger Car tires and then check the Max Performance Summer and Ultra High Performance Summer. Another comparison between the S04 and the G force sport comp 2’s indicates they are very close in performance. The G force shows a bit more tire life, but rides a bit rougher with more noise. Another great way to compare tire characteristics is on the spider charts on the Tire Rack website. Let us know what you decide.

Happy hunting!

You want to run asymetic tires on these cars due to its suspension design. Car runs lots of neg camber and need reinforced inner treads.

those BFG's are not.

Just do you know treadwear is a number given by the manufacturer and there is no "standard" so it's hard to compare those numbers especially if they're that close. And Michelin is usually top with tirerack but in my own conspiracy I think they give tirerack kick back as well. Don't get me wrong I think the ps2 is the best daily tire out there for performance but just a thought

Went 265/35zr19 & 285/35zr19 in S-04 PP, fit no problem and without rubbing being lowered on swift springs. Over these tiny speed bumps at the local grocery store I heard the little black plastic parts that hang down under the front bumper scrape. Front must be a little lower now

I am happy

Anyone running with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3?? Like to hear how you like them and your impression of the handling in the rain? Luckily I only have 4k on these tires as it was a garage queen, been hunting for a new tire for the future. I am looking at the DWS and the Michelin PSS. Those of you who seem to love the PSS here, how do they hold up in the rain with wet roads/puddles?

In Utah, Im skeptical to just run summer tires all year round, I will park it for most of the winter. Snow comes at all sorts of times in Utah unexpectedly. As well as rain and hail.

I live at 9k feet in Colorado. I ran pilot A/S3s this last winter and the Z is STILL almost un-drivable in packed snow. I was hoping to get enough grip to at least run and errand in snow, but the Pilot Sport A/S is a FAIL in snow. Their only saving grace is that they are not damaged by driving on dry days when its cold outside. Some tires are not to be driven at less then 30 degrees outside air temp...

run summer tires in summer and go with dedicated snow tires in the white stuff (blizzaks perhaps)

It's the big, light, wide, super torqued back end that is the problem. I usually can keep the front pointing but the back end goes full Tokyo drift mode at every bend in the road. I am not driving aggressively at all just trying to creep around my twisty hilly neighborhood.

Tire Rack online. The trick is finding someone to mount and balance them without scarfing your wheels.

chances are the S04's are pretty much the same but with better sidewall and tread appearance and comfort.
one benefit PSS has that i noticed is weight. they are quite a bit lighter than the S04's.
