Is 35/30 Sidewall too thin?

I just bought new rims and I'm buying new tires today. I live in NJ and there tends to be a decent amount of potholes. My question is, is it

Default Is 35/30 Sidewall too thin?

I just bought new rims and I'm buying new tires today. I live in NJ and there tends to be a decent amount of potholes. My question is, is it too risky to run 255/35 and 285/30. I'm nervous if the sidewall of 35/30 is too thin, will one decent pothole bend a rim? Any input or past experiences with this please share.

P.S. - I'm leaning toward 35/30 because the tire I am looking for doesn't come with a larger sidewall than 35, or they are out of stock.

Yes,the diameter too small..anyway,any low profile tyres will bend the rim ,if hit a large pothole..

What do you mean the diameter is too small? Will there be rubbing then?

I'm trying to figure out what size tire to put on my rims that will fit with no rubbing. The rims are front:20 x 9 +20 Rear: 20 X 10.5 +15

I'm running those sizes on hankook v12s on 20X9.5F and 11R. Minor rubbing in the back on inclines.

These are the right size for the 20's. It would be too tall with 40/35 (f/r).

You will damage the wheels even with 40/35 if you hit it hard enough.

I am pondering going with a 265/35 and 305/30 setup on my wheels, which adds an insignificant amount of sidewall compared to your 255/285 setup. A lot of guys run the 265/305 setup but on 19" wheels (i.e. the sidewall is the same, just on a smaller wheel), and I don't see those guys on forum crying over bent wheels. So just avoid the major potholes and you should be fine.

Also just as a piece of advice since we are talking about wheel diameters and what not. a 245/35 Front and 285/30 Rear has the same overall diameter @ 26.8" (which also happens to be the factory wheel/tire diameter). The 255/35 Front is slightly larger diameter than the 285/30 rear. Probably won't cause any problems but the keen observer might spot the difference in diameter/sidewall size.

I look forward to seeing some photos of your setup.

Out of curiosity for future knowledge, how are you getting the overall diameter measurements. This would be helpful so I don't have to bother asking all of these questions

oem sport wheels run 245/40 275/35 tires so you should be good.

I run 265/35 and 305/30 on my oem sport wheels with zero issues. also I live in PA with the worlds worst roads lol

go to tire rack, look up specific tires, go to specs tab and all measurements are there.

I work in PA and feel your pain. After just bending a rim this winter, I think i'm just overly nervous for this to happen to the new wheels.

Luckily I have access to wholesale account through tirerack so the tires won't run me broke. Thinking about going Continential DWS or Pilot Sport AS/3.

I'm also going to have to look into aftermarket lugs as well. I won't need to replace the studs, right?

knocking on wood the forged sport wheels seem to be standing the true tests of PA roads and potholes so far.

I just got a new set of 265/305 RE-11's I believe the total with shipping was $1350.

aftermarket lugs should go right on. don't see a reason why they wouldn't unless they are some weird knock off or something like that where the threading is off.
