THIS is what I think of Sumitomo tires...
I'll let the image speak for itself...
Tires were :owned:. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h1...t.jpg~original In case you wondered: Wheels = OEM 18's Tires = Sumitomo HTR III Sizes = 245/275 F/R That's what i get for buying $500 tires. |
I have ran sumitomo tires at the track. They were slow as crap, but they held up very well.
Not sure what is going on with yours. |
|
The NTB next door tried to sell me some...I told them hell no! Just google the tires and most of the reviews say stay away.
|
How many miles were on the tire?
|
Ship it to Sumitomo tires with a note.

What was the manufacture date? Could they have been excessively aged? Sitting on a rack in temperatures that were too hot/cold? Seems like a warranty should cover this.

Looks like a decent amount of tread left. Maybe post em on craigslist: USED :rofl2:

yea thought so..... :wtf2: |
i ran the ZIII tires 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 on my 95 RX-7 w/ LS1 V8, with hard driving, road course, and drag strip put like 20,000 on the set over 6 years, even had to drive one winter on them when my DD broke down. Never had a single issue. Thats crazy yours fell apart like that.

Damn... thats happen on the track or just street use??
BTW keep them for New years eve... you can do a burnout with those tires :bowrofl: |

:iagree: |
It is pretty clear you ran those tires red hot. I have to believe that you couldn't tell that you were over driving them, if not only by the feel, but by the smell.
I am in no way saying that those tires are track worthy but you have some fault. What were your hot tire pressures immediately after pulling into the paddock? What were your cold tire pressures before going on track? Kids...If you are driving street tires on a track and they start howling and losing grip you probably need to back it off a little. If you pull into the paddock and your tire is at 49 psi hot you may want to bleed some air out of it (10 to 15 psi to be exact). Although I did not follow this rule in my wife's civic earlier this year. I had mounted dedicated snow tires on it but just could not help my self driving on some switchbacks in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I killed those perfectly good tires... |

I start 28 cold, 38ish hot on all 4 corners. The photo posted above was after 400 miles of Track time. They were over heated, fact. But doing so to a non r-comp causes the above results. I was semi-amused. Any thoughts however on how to reduce the carnage on my tires, while keeping a good lap time? Also... backing off a little from howling tires? I thought that was part of the fun? *scratches head |
bump cuz this amuses me
