Wider Tires and ESC/ABS Issues
 

Has anyone had issues with their ABS or VDC acting up after changing from the OEM setup to a few sizes up?

I had a local tire shop tell me that they would not feel comfortable in selling me 305's for the rears and 275's for the fronts since it may tell the ABS or ESC to turn on because of the differences in sizes from the originals. I want to get the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 and in the following sizes...

F: 305/30-19
R: 275/35-19

I have the stock Sport/Touring 19's on my 40th and want to go up 3 sizes but want to get a few opinions before I order my new tires. BYW, the local Nissan dealer said that they would install any tires that I bring to them, so I am a little confused.

Any help is much appreciated...

I run those same sizes on my stock sport Rays with no ABS or VDC issues. I track my car hard so if it works on mine it will work on yours.
Also the Hankook RS3 in those sizes were a PITA for the installers to get on and they scratched a couple of my wheels doing it. I wasn't too mad as they are my track wheels but if they were my street wheels I would have been pissed.

I dont understand why it's the shops business? tell them I am paying you, so I am your BOSS!! They dont honour your request, show them your a$$ on the way out

Because they don't want to be held liable if something goes wrong. If they don't feel comfortable doing the work, just find another shop.

There are two separate parties here; one to sell the tires and another for the install. The tire seller won't sell these to me because the are not an OEM size for the 370Z. The local Nissan dealer will install any size that I bring to them, so it's not them. If I decide to go bigger, I will just get the tires from another source and let the dealer install them.

I'll let the local seller know that there have been NO ABS or VDC ISSUES reported with the bigger tires and see what they say.

they said this because they have to. tirerack also said it was not good to change OEM tire sizes. so I just order tires without saying what car its for.

as for the ABS/VDC issues: that will only happen if the diameter of the F to R tires is over a certain amount.

as running a 45 or whatever front ratio tire and a 25 rear ratio tire will have the traction control light (little squirrely tires mark one) stuck on because of the diameter difference the ECU thinks your spinning tire.

someone else may know the exactly diameter difference but I think it was like .8" or something. don't quote me on that though.

I also run 265/305 on sport OEM wheels. they are perfect......the tir shop guys hate me because 305s were not the easiest to get on there. fun to watch them wrestle it though haha

I'm running 275/35-19 front, and 345/30-19 rear. This is about the limit before the ABS/VDC lights come on. If I was to use a smaller front tire. I would think that the lights would be on.

How much diameter difference is good?
 

Stock OEM tires on a 370z have a diameter difference of 0.1". Is a diameter difference of 0 (i.e. equal diameter) ideal or do you want to maintain some kind of stagger?

285/35/19 on the front and 325/30/19's on rear. Nismo rims. No issues at all.

Would you mind showing a picture of how the tires look on your rims/car? Both fronts and rears.

I run a 255 and a 305 with no problems. As mentioned I would tell the tire shop to mind their own business and sell you the damn tires, or go else where.
