How'd this guy get his rims like this?
http://youtu.be/vx6hXVptV_E
Assuming those are stock rims for an older z, how'd he do that? Also, is it easy tinting tail lights/head lights with tinting wrapper? I wanna attempt it but unsure if it'll work. Thank u |
tinting wrapper is going to be a bitch cause theres a crevice on the tail lights.

That's what I was thinking. It'd be a huge pain in the ***. Just wondering if anyone has actually done it and can tell me how much of a pain in the *** it was. Cheaper and more time saving than doing it with plasti dip. I'm trying to do it myself and I'm not sure if I'll be able to dip it myself unless it's easier than I'm making it Sound. |
Anyone have an idea?
|
just mask off those little sections of the wheels then plasti dip the rest. or if he paid good money its the same but powder coated.

Is that the stock rim color? U thought it might've been a decal or something |

That seems like it'd be a pain in the *** to dip, especially if I don't like how it ends up. Thank u for the response though :) |

that's actually the best way to do it and see if you like it. then go spend the money to get them powder coated. get painters tape, couple cans of plastidip, and somewhere to spray em. tape off the sections you want bare and spray the rest. done lol |

Yeah I paid 86$ for plasti dip and it should be coming in today and I plan on getting my rims done myself. Not trying to pay another 86$ for another kit if I mess up lol. |

i know i can get a 6 pack of cans for $50 on amazon if i ever would use plastidip. |

Use nightshades to tint your tail/headlights. Easier then wrapping and also you can remove it as well if you don't like the way it turns out.

JAFAMAN did that to his wheels as well, " paint and diamond cut them " he states. http://www.the370z.com/wheels-tires/...ew-wheels.html |

However, if you wanna try it, It is not that hard. I would advise against doing the pre-cut kits. It is much easier to tint and then just cut off the edges. I used a precut kit for a friends car and it left a lot to be desired. |
The tail lights are pretty easy to remove.... a bit worse than the 350z but still easy.
2x 10 mm bolts on top of the tail light housing after you pull the plastic cover off of them. Pull interior plastic pieces and remove 8mm nut on the inside, and pull straight back towards you. There will be some resistance since it is held in there by a few clips. Plastic interior is pretty easy to get out as well. Tinting is easy, either pull the lights and VHT then do a light buff on them. Or go the easy route and buy the sheets of vinyl that will cover lights and put a heat gun on medium settings pull and stretch the sheet perfect over the lights. Then cut access off around the lights. The heat will make quick work of the crease in the rear tails and if you get a ticket you can pull it with ease. Plus it would be cheaper to buy the vinyls and heat gun plus if you don't own one you can add one to your tool arsenal for around $30, I bought one from harbor freight thinking cool a throw away tool. Ive had it for 3 years and used it a ton of times randomly, when I thought I was buying it for a one time use sort of thing. No offense to anyone on the forum or OP, But I knew a dude who had his set of 370z Rays painted like that and he installed them on his fx35 after he bought them from CL. I just wasn't a fan and kinda feel that the car deserves better than painted stockers. Just screams "I'm Broke, but need to stand out". I would at first plasti-dip them like others are saying. You never know might spend the dough to get them painted and hate it. |
I just have to say it. Those wheels look horrible like that.
