My thoughts as well. I'm hoping these will yield similar lateral grip levels while being able to sustain the weight of the Z.

The Star Specs aren't that great on heavy cars.

well if you want to or know how to speak Japanese here you go.

POTENZA史上最速のストリートラジアル 「POTENZA RE-71R」新発売 | ニュースリリース | *式会社ブリヂストン

but from what i can tell these are a step above the RE-11 from the test graphs and numbers. as well as in a video i saw they were running them on a GT-R R34 and it was tearing the track up.

the creator said the best part about the tires are that they give the grip of a track tire but do not need to be heated to a high temp to get that grip.

That is why I am not as super excited as most. The RE-11's worked great on the Z's cuz of the beefy shoulder blocks which get laid down in the turns.

These might get chewed up on ours just like the Star Specs. Maybe a new improved compound will yield different/better results.

Im late to the game here... but I will be very sad if the Re11's go away. They are the only tire I have been running for years. Go through one set a season. lol

from what i understand they will still be produced but i don't know for how long. i'm with you especially if they don't expand the sizes of the new RE-71.

this past year was my first set of RE-11s and im sad i didn't use them sooner.

This should make for an interesting year. I plan on using these for DD and track, haha.

For anyone on the stock sport rays I really recommend the 275/35 square setup. I run hankook rs3's in this size and it really transformed the handling of the car without even adjusting any suspension dynamics.

those tires are just subpar compared to a RE-11 or PSS's in my opinion.

also in their class they had the lowest handling rating of the tires tested.

Yet they've been used by tons of national competitive autocross guys to win events? I mean, it depends on how you're comparing them. Overall when you add comfort, road noise, etc they may not be the best. When you're talking overall dry grip, the RS3 is incredible. The RE-11 from what I've been told has always had excellent dry grip, although not quite as good as the RS3, but with better overall road manners.

RS3s have substantially more lateral grip than the PSS and more than the RE11 when they are up to temperature. The PSS isn't in the same league of track performance and ability to withstand high temperatures.

And for an update, I wasn't going to get the RE71 in time so I settled for RE11.

Track sizes have limited availability during this time of year.

as much as I loved the PSS's the heat wanst it's friend nor was the sidewall strength.

got real worried on the dragon when I felt the should of my one front tire roll when diving into a big turn.

sidenote: I was thinking of the V12 tires. those blow donkey balls. the RS3 V2 different story.

that article doesnt specifically say that they are RE11 replacements.
they state the re71r's are made for dry traction and achieves improved lap times by improving lateral hold during high speed cornering vs RE11's.

RE11's work well in dry or wet conditions.

dat said, RE71R are not replacements for RE11A's... so i thinks. so i hopes...

plus, i never liked running non-asymmetric tires on cars like the Z and G where there is large amounts of programmed negative camber by design.

not that i have any say to wat ishibashi-san wants to do.
