wheel spacers

Are they bad?

kenchan 10-12-2009 04:47 PM

not if done correctly but remember that it will throw off your wheel rates on the suspension and can add tramlining.

wheel rates ? can you elaborate ?

kenchan 10-12-2009 07:33 PM

Wheel rate is your spring rate of your entire suspension at the wheels.

The farther you push out the wheels the lower your spring rate becomes as its going to take less energy to compress your suspension.

Basically you'll probably end up needing a swaybar to compensate.

Sorry to revive this... but, how does a sway bar fix the wheel rate issue? I love your set up Kenchan, but I don't want a softer ride because of it. I've thought of finding a set of nismo springs too to help but I'm not sure how they work on stock struts...

kenchan 05-18-2011 11:06 AM

swaybars will only help when there is torsional load while turning or when there is a bump or dip on one side.

nismo spring apparently raises the car in the front so not sure if that's what you want...(?) if you're getting springs i would also swap out to adjustable dampers if Koni has them availabe...

for street though, i found that the F20/R15 (ET27/ET15) setup was softer but not too soft. you might actually like it more than without depending on how uneven your roads are... the RE050A's have stiff sidewalls.

Know of anyone who has put the Nismo springs on? I can't seem to find anyone that has put the Nismo springs on an otherwise stock sport...

Check the first few pages of the Swift Reviewed thread, I think member Tjlazer posted there many times about his Nismo springs on a non Nismo model.

ok... anyone who didn't have issues with their nismo springs? i obviously dont want a lift here but that would be the closest i can get to stock ride height and still keep and nice firm spring with spacers.

Oh and tjlazer installed the whole s tune kit... struts and all. i want JUST springs...

kenchan 05-19-2011 10:10 AM

yah, tj had them on and got the swifts later on. he seems to be happy with the swifts. :)
