Default Moving to Denver. Mileage prediction.

Parked my baby in the airport lot for the last time on California. I'm putting her up on a moving van next time I'm out for shipping to Colorado. Ill let you know how she does up in the thin air of my other home. (9000 feet).

Might have to supercharge her if the air turns out to be too thin. On the other hand, enforcement is used as tax collection in Colorado so maybe it will be better to lose a couple dozen horses just to keep my speedy urges in check... We'll see. I'm also interested to see what happens to mileage in the thinner air. (Less drag, less air/fuel flow through the engine) I'm guessing I go from average 22 to average 26. (Mostly highway miles up there and slower speeds due to an average of 3 speed traps on my 55mile commute)

Anybody care to bet how my hp and mileage will change. I'm going to Uprev a high altitude map upon arrival so I should get some dyno numbers pretty soon. MPG will be done over my second fuel stop using a at the pump prediction.

I currently average 21.9 over my last 15 tanks.

I get 319 at the wheels in San Jose California. I'm guessing 290??? At 7000 feet (Denver tuner shop)

Anyhow stay tuned for my data.

I also moved CO about a month ago. However I moved from the East Coast so not just elavation but the 91 pump gas instead of the 93 has robbed me of performance. I should be recieving and installing a Stillen Gen3 intake and catback exhaust if fedex pulls through tomorrow, Because im trying to get my performance back. As far as the police they have speed traps all over and ford focus unmarkeds so they certainly are something to watch for here. But as far as gas milage I cant help to much because im pretty heavy on the pedal. But if your interested I can let you know my results from the air system changes. Also if you could do me a favor and let me know if you find any Z clubs around because I havent had much luck finding any due to the fact most people around here thay own Z's are of the older age group.

Its funny< the Z is such a beast and a bit unpleasant for a DD. I don't understand why non enthusiasts buy them. It does explain that massive heavy double-flywheel and no oil cooler though....

I wonder if those grey hairs ever drive them VDC off

The Z actually does pretty well in Colorado. The thin air robs a bit of power, but it isn't immensely noticeable.

The biggest change in mileage will likely come from the altitude variations you deal with going from point to point (although, depending where you are in CA, it might not be that much worse).

Good luck with your move. Here's to hoping your Z gets shipped safely!

Thanks. I'm a bit nervous about having my car in the back of a moving truck but since my ride is not completely cherry( a few little dings and chips here and there) I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. My biggest worry is getting the nose up the ramp with such low clearance.

Ill try to post a pic or too just for fun of my ride loaded up next to the dressers and stuff lol

Reputable companies tend to do a pretty good job transporting, especially if it is covered. I would keep some 2x4s around in case it needs help getting on the ramp, though.

When are you moving? I'm actually relocating to Denver over this weekend.

I live in Denver part time already. Have had a house here for 10 years.

I'm moving my wife and baby out end of Jan. Z (and other stuff) should take a week or dobro arrive.

Actually I'm up in conifer.

To answer the mileage question, the thin air requires more throttle...

So, worse mileage.

I'm getting about 28 mpg best on the highway with 91 octane Colorado fuel vrs 33 mpg best in California.

I'm pretty surprised! I thought thin air would mean leaner fuel flow and less Aerodynamic drag. I thought those two factors would mean better mileage, but I was apparently wrong. Weird.

Its possible the octane in Co hurts performance. It's also possible my milage has suffered from changing from Nissan oil to redline, but not THAT much... (-5MPG)

note: I tuned on a dyno for both CA and CO. (the tune actually hurt my MPG a little bit)

Also I have berk and JWT breather mods which should help.

9000 feet where in CO are you living?

The smog checks in CO are highway checkpoints, they set up these little vans and snap photos of your plate if your emissions are too high.

Oh no not saying you weren't. I think the smog cams is all they do out there anyway which is nice because you don't have to go in and deal with paying to get tested and such.
