So, for winter....
I just got my Z, like a week ago, and I'm wondering what people from the western region are going to do for winter. (On the fence for buying snow tires, or a beater 4x4 truck myself.) The past two winters have been pretty light, but I was also driving a different car...
I'm thinking of storing my 370z in a rent-a-storage, but before I waste a ton of cash on snow tires or a car, I'm hoping that someone who has already lived the winter & in this region can give me a good idea on what to do with my 370z can help answer so I can get good guidance. Today we had a small hail storm, but it was enough to cause me to worry!!!! I live in Northern Utah myself, and I am trying to be a one-car person. Thanks!!! |
Is it a base or sport model?

Stock Bridgestones=no go on snow. I bought snow tires.
I parked mine for almost a week last year because it literally wouldn't go. All I could do was spin the tires and slide. I bought a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks (cheap and Tirerack) and cheap wheels and was good as gold. |
How much was the set?
I'm deciding if I should spend 500 bucks on new tires and wheels, or 500 bucks on a junker. And its base, with sport package. |

TireRack.com Search Winter / Snow Tires By Vehicle at Tire Rack It's just my opinion, but I don't think I'd want to rely on a $500 junker in the middle of the winter. |
the blizzak LM-25 are on close out so you could pick it up pretty cheap....

These are what I bought. They probably clear better than Rays. http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...ge&qty_front=4 |
Sweet stuff.
Its looking like I'll have to use different tires and drive slowly I guess. I couldn't do much until December anyways since the dealership is taking a grand out for down payments this and next month. Normally I wouldn't care but last year I saw a freaking 4x4 sport utility (unsure of actual car.) hit a firebird driving in front of me on the highway while we were going, like, 4 MPH. That guy was probably just driving like an *** since he figured he had 4 wheels or whatever, but I was about to pass the firebird at the very moment the truck hit. Just saying, if that happens to me this winter I'm punching that dude in the ear. |
I went the route of the beater truck. I'm going to be into it for $2500 once I put on some AT tires. I figure it will be good for getting me up to the mountains to snowboard and will haul the bike to the track next summer.
