Big difference between an acoustic and an electric. What type of music do you want to play? Are you a folkie? A bluesman? Indie? Classic Rock?

yeah i mean id like to start out with an acoustic cuz they are cheaper..

but if the price is right i wouldnt mind an electric either..

im pretty well rounded.. i listen to indie, classic rock, alternative, country, pretty much everything..

so i wouldnt mind getting a guitar that is well rounded.

What price range are you in? You can actually get a decent playing Fender Stratocaster for very little money these days. Generally, the action (closeness of the strings to the frets) will be better than on a cheap acoustic. Typically the neck and bridge can also be adjusted so you have a very decent guitar to learn on for the money.

One thing to remember is to set aside a few buck to have a tech set up the guitar properly. The last thing you want or need is a poor playing guitar due to improper intonation or the strings to high above the frets. A few bucks will go a long way in you wanting to play the guitar, also do not let the salesperson sell you strings which are too heavy. If you purchase an acoustic the silk and steel strings are very airy and easier to play (less tension). Cheers and good luck.

lol yes huge difference with acoustic and electric guitars my man!
You should look for an acoustic. 3 Years ago I got real lucky and got my first Taylor at my local guitar center for 700! I'm pretty sure you can get a decent guitar these days for around 300-400. Have you decided on your price range? That can help me look for a guitar for you. What kind of music are looking to play?

well i luv all types..

i mostly listen to metallica, indie, and some country.

i would love to start out with an acoustic cuz they say theres something remarkable about acoustics..

but like i said if the price is right for a good electric, ill take that as well

i was looking for 100-250

i learn quick.. and i know that it would be a mistake for me to get something real expensive

Try pawn shops for your first guitar. You can try them out before you buy them; see what you like. A lot of them have some nice guitars in there for cheap!
