Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Professional
I need a legit copy of Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Professional or Enterprise (not an educational version) :)
Relevant to my Z, 'cause I want to hang the CD off the rear view mirror after I compile my program :bowrofl: |
Iphone apps don't compile under VB...
|
:mad:
|
If you REALLLY need VB6, you can probably get it off MSDN with a valid license...
What do you need VB6 for anyways? |
thanks for the tip. I logged on to MSDN, but I only see Visual Studio starting with 2005. I have a MSDN Retail account. I can probably see it/download it with my work account, but it would defeat the purpose, since I am trying to compile a legit version of my code (with a valid license) to sell it (even if its for 50 cents) :)
So yea, I need VB6 to compile my code I built on work software. I own Visual Studio 2010 (with the MSDN account), but I cant port my code to VS2010. Too many API calls, and its too big to waste time migrating. Although, I plan to re-write it in the future, I need some monies now. |
VB6 = FAIL
Seriously though, who still uses this? It's been dead for 10 years. |
I cant waste time porting it. It needs to be a complete re-write. I need to compile the existing version to sell for pennies (donations).
I will give it to anyone here that wants it, once I add some finishing touches. |

Looks like they are about $300 on eBay - sorry, I think I threw out my copy a few months ago, but I'll check around.
I'm don't think you can download from MSDN without an MSDN license, which is quite a bit more than $300, but they do have VB 6 for download still :) |
Just checked my MSDN (Ultimate?), still up there. 2 CD download, although pretty sure 2nd CD is just crap.

I can see VB6 Enterprise for download with my work and personal MSDN, but the download button is disabled with my MSDN retail account. Hard to believe that the 10 year old technology, as ChrisSlick calls it, is worth nearly $700 retail! |

So, there is a "Available to Levels:" field for VB6, and it says that it should be available
to Visual Studio Professional with MSDN (Retail), which is what I bought; so I think. I'll email them and ask. If anyone else has it, and wants to sell it to me for cheap, please let me know. |
A Retail MSDN should work, what matters is the level of MSDN - here is the list from the site:
Available to Levels: VS Pro with MSDN Pro (VL); VS Pro with MSDN Premium (Empower); Developer AA; VS Pro with MSDN (Retail); MSDN Enterprise; MSDN Universal (Retail); VSTS Team Suite (VL); VSTS Architecture (VL); VS Premium with MSDN (MPN); VSTS Test (VL); VS Pro with MSDN Premium (MPN); MSDN Universal (VL); VSTS Database (VL); VS Pro with MSDN Premium (Retail); VSTS Test (Retail); VSTS Development (Retail); VSTS Architecture (Retail); VSTS Team Suite (Retail); VSTS Database (Retail); BizSpark Admin; BizSpark; VS Pro with MSDN Embedded (Retail); VS Pro with MSDN Embedded (VL); VS Ultimate with MSDN (VL); VS Premium with MSDN (VL); VS Pro with MSDN (VL); VS Premium with MSDN (Retail); VS Ultimate with MSDN (Retail); VS Ultimate with MSDN (MPN); VS Ultimate with MSDN (NFR FTE); I found my Windows CE Tools for VB 6 :), and my VS 6.0 Upgrade box, but the CDs aren't in it any more - they may be with my wife's PC. You would need a copy of something older for it to work anyway. I'll keep looking. |
Just remember that the MSDN key for these older products is bogus any way, they all use the same legacy fake code.

PM your asking price once you found it. By the way, I can buy Visual Basic 4.5 retail/sealed for $10. I saw it yesterday at a local store that sells old computers parts. Let me know if 4.5 could be upgraded with your 6.0 disc! :) |

I can almost picture what would be going through AK's head if he saw my thread... hahahahaha
:nutswinger: :gtfo2: :facepalm: :shakes head: :superghey: |
I think I did something similar for one of my old VS versions - bought a copy of Visual J++ 1.0 for cheap, then upgraded it ;)
BTW, while the company may not own the compiled program (Radio Shack employment agreements not withstanding), I would be most companies have employment policies that prohibit using company property for non-company business operations. |
Interesting:
Alvin: I understand you want to download Visual Basic 6.0. However, I have to let you know that this product has been removed from Subscriber Downloads due to the terms of Java-related settlements Microsoft made with Sun Microsystems. It is no longer available from Microsoft in any form, but may be available through third-party resellers or Web sites. franklin: understand Alvin: You may refer to the following web page: Alvin: Product Availability Alvin: MSDN Subscriptions | Product Availability Alvin: "Products Unavailable due to Java-related Settlement" |

Funny thing is that not even microsoft can sell it (or provide it), because they got sued by SUN... probably for including java stuff in it back then. |
Interesting, but seems incorrect. I downloaded the VB 6 ISO from my MSDN subscription and it looks like just what it says - thought I didn't install it :)
Fun to look back through old history - my VS 6 Upgrade box on top of my Windows CE Tools box on top of my Paradox 8 box on top of my Newton Toolkit and Newton MessagePage 2000 boxes :) Or my OOPSLA '89 Proceedings on the shelf beneath my MS-DOS 5.0 manual and my PostScript Programming Reference, and on top of my Norton Utilities Advanced box :D I really need to throw more stuff away!!! |

I am off to bed Wilson. Thanks again for trying to help me out. Before you throw stuff away, look it up on ebay and see if its worth anything :) p.s. you just just need netware and you'd have the complete vintage collection (lol) |
problem solved!
bought visual studio 6 enterprise for $5.25 priced at $20 store owner said he had thrown many away, gave me discount. i couldnt find it online for less than $700. i wasted a good hour of my life looking through 1000s of cds |
Cool!

All,
As promised, here is a copy of the tool. Check it out and download if you are interested. Of couse, if you like it, tell all your friends. If you need tech support, please reach out to ChrisSlicks (hah hah) Spiritual Shield > Home |
I'd take a $300/hour job looking through CDs :)
Looks sort of like a personal Wiki tool or maybe AskSam, though not yet as powerful. Fun to rewrite in C#/WPF, though I don't know why it is doing anything that wouldn't port easily to VB.Net. BTW, saw this at MSDN: Bytes by MSDN: Dr. Ivan Sanabria and Tim Huckaby - Migrating VB6 apps to C# or .NET | Bytes by MSDN | Channel 9 |

I am glad that you are interested on the subject. There are many reasons why I can't migrate to .net. But mostly having to do with the program needing to be re-written from scratch. Its just not worth my time. Did you install it, or just going by the picture on the website? I love channel 9. Let me check out your link. |
All I can say is LOL at vb 6. I vaguely remember being in middle school and messing with it. Ahhh the good ol days LOL
|
Shakespeare says VB6 sucks..!!
Question = 2b || !2b; |
Didn't you mean
Question = 0x2b || !0x2b; ? |

Surprised Al didn't beat me to it LOL |
While my side projects are free (see iPhoneBrowser for example), I will some day publish some of my iPhone apps in the store.
I think if you have the right programming and user interaction abilities, an iOS app is the best way to make money on the side writing applications. OTOH, a consulting job is probably the best way to make money. |
