I'm being told no even though I have my tune and already paid for a license. I need to pay all over. Can't I just give him my tune file and he has a cable and we start tuning?

Assuming it isn't locked, and he has a cable... I think so...?

Yes & no, when a tuner tunes a car you are paying for the license and his time, that is it.
If you go to a different tuner, they can either start a fresh tune from scratch since you have a license (you just need to pay for his tuning time) or modify the current tune if the tune is unlocked.

most tuners i have called when shopping for my tune wanted to charge me for a license REGARDLESS of the fact i already had my own, unlocked, on the cable.

so i shopped around until i found a tuner who only charged me for their labor and dyno. not the extra $300 for the license charge.

If you have a cable you can clear codes, I have a standard license and cable and can clear them. I cannot edit anything with my tune but can view/clear codes in cipher.

My Standard cable also allows me to flash the ECU (i.e. I can flash back to stock or flash a new tune file) but not actually modify the tune myself. I did have to call UpRev and get them to unlock my Standard cable so I could flash since it wasn't specified that way when I ordered it.

Seriously contemplating upgrading to a Tuner cable now that I'm boosted.

I don't know what cable I have but I can flash tunes, record logs, and clear codes. I was told before if I had a tune, license and cable it would cost my $350 for dyno time and the tuners time.

That sounds like a standard license with cable, I can do the same things but just not adjust my tune.
I am on the fence also about upgrading as being able to make minor changes might be nice instead of having to schedule an appointment with the tuner to adjust a fan speed.

Can you adjust fan speed if you have a locked tune? Or did you get Eric to provide you with an unlocked tune?

Minor thread jack...
Also you up for getting together at some point? I'm real interested in how Sam piped your secondary PCV system on the SC system. Sure Chuck would offer up the lift and I'll spring for 'refreshments'
