This was brought up in my build thread, as a result I found a few guys have the same/similar problem.
I though it would make sense to have a dedicated thread to compile information.
I've had the idle issue since getting the tune. The car will lean out, want to stall, I usually give it a bit of gas to settle it down, otherwise the car will settle itself down. Sometime it will throw a code (P0171.System too Lean (Bank 1)) if it doesn't settle down fast enough. I don't remember the code off the top of my head (possibly MAF something or other), I'll hook the computer up tonight and get the code. The MAF are clean, so who knows.

A bad 02 will also cause the engine to trim outside its limits and cause the code. - To throw another monkey wrench in the discussion. I performed the throttle body relearn procedure a few weeks back. The first couple of times I ran the car after that it almost completely fixed the issue. Within a day or two it was back.
All in all no real solution from me but figured I throw the items above out as additional data points. I would love nothing more than to get this figured out because it really pisses me off to have a car that I worked this hard on and spent this much money on and it just doesn't idle right. Makes power all day, runs great in open loop but has random hiccups under no throttle.

I am going to spend some time and play with idle timing as was suggested in the build thread. Its easy enough to do and we will see what happens there. I will start with stock timing at idle and see how much mine is currently adjusted.
I am about to take the car out today so ill play with it a bit. It was mentioned that a throttle relearn fixed this issue for a bit. If thats the case the ECU and VVEL is doing something funky to learn NA values on a FI car.
Also another idle issue which may or may not be related is the full lean idle condition that happens from time to time.

Check fuel & MAF readings like I mentioned in the other thread, another idea to help is if all of those with the problem could data log via Uprev the same paramters and post them. This will allow for some comparison and narrow what potential problems are causing it.

Took a quick video of my car. This first video shows the steady state idle and you can kinda hear the lope a little. Its not to bad but again not 100% perfect.
On the second video at the start you can clearly see it idling fine, the trims are within a reasonable error and then I blip the throttle and it all goes to craaap. This time I actually had to restart the car to get it to fix itself. Once restarted it was all good again.
I'll do this when I get home. Since it's so hot here I have to let the car cool down in the garage for several minutes before I'm comfortable killing it. I'll plug UpRev in and get a log going.
well I attempted to log on the way home and was successful but didn't realize you had to save immediately and when I went back into UpRev the logs were gone. learn the hard way I guess.
I did see that the a/f correction between bank 1 and 2 were way different confirming that it looks like I have a FT O2 sensor on the way out. the code popped up for the first time Monday and hasn't came back since I cleared it. new sensor is on its way and I'll log once I get it swapped.
any particular parameters y'all want?

Hey guys, just reporting back from Gale's thread.
Today I drove my car to the gym and paid extra attention to the AFR and idle.
So, my idle is perfectly normal and stable. No bounce.
My AFR at idle is reading between 13.7-14.7. That is at both extremes. For the most part at idle it is usually bouncing around 14.0-14.4.
Seems like, from face value without data logging, my tuner made it run a bit rich at idle.

Maybe the richness is the trick to keep it from doing what we describe. You would have to just log it to see what the target afr is set at. I suspect you might just have the same issue I had where one bank is at 14.7 and the other is at ~13.7 or so.

I think I may have found the fix today. I believe the car switches to the "cold" fuelling tables. I copied my main table into the cold (or what uprev calls cold) and it seems like its just fine now. I will have to get more seat time on it to make sure that was indeed the issue and its not just some fluke it has not came back.
Jason, unplug your 2 downstream O2s and see what happens, you will have a CEL but the car will run just fine (or you can delete it with the tuner cable if your tune is unlocked).
On a side kinda related note, I went to the track and ran 12.7 (not the best), but trapped at 120mph which I thought was awesome. Last year IIRC my trap speed was 110mph.

I'm sure my tune is locked. I may just have to deal with it until I get a retune, or put up with the CEL.

who tuned your car? if you have a good relationship with him he could probably just email you the updated map with O2 sensors removed

You could try just the cold timing tables. The O2s were to just get it to idle and drive with both banks at the target afr. I found that if you keep the O2 plugged in one bank will always run richer than the other under closed loop.

soon as I get my new ft O2 sensor I'll have to do some more closed loop logging. I don't recall one being richer than the other.
are we sure the ECU doesn't use the post cat O2s for anything?

Vince at R/T Tuning.

So far so good, the lean idle has more or less stopped. But a new quirk has started which I think may be related to my changes. I been around these tuning programs long enough to realize that table names dont always mean what they suggest they should mean.
For example this car switches to that "COLD" fueling table at idle under some conditions (causing the lean spikes while idling). I would assume that that fueling table might actually not so much be a cold table as it is some sort of emissions modified table on the car. Either way changing the cold table with the main table values fixed pretty much everything. However now on hot starts it will take a second or more to crank up which also means that this car may be using this as a fueling table for starting.
My solution to this is take the cranking region of the table and return it to where it was before and see if that gives me the best of two worlds.
Either way this engine is still running strong and happy at 12-13PSI of boost.

Thanks, I just want to get this figured out and if others can benefit then im glad.
No idea what power level that is, its enough to run 120mph in the 1/4. I believe before all this started I ran 110mph last year. I am going to try and get it on a dyno for a few baseline pulls just to have a number.
It is at the limit of the fuel I have available up here without running any sort of additive. I did sacrifice some tq for some hp in my tuning. I can feel that much, but the hp makes it well worth the loss in lower end tq.
Also when I say 13PSi that is my absolute peak, it settles around 12.5ish most of the time with 0 knock. Keep in mind we have 94 octane up here as well.

Not that it really matters but when I had my car tuned, it was a whole new tune and not from the modifying the base map. Maybe that is why I do not have any problems with idle.

all the base maps are locked. all of us have custom tunes from scratch

To be fair I think its quite easy to overlook the cold fueling table as well it says cold on the label. I initially did and then just decided to give it a try anyways knowing that sometimes the labels dont always mean what you think they mean. Heck cold could be just low enough of a coolant temp that at idle the car cools down just enough to hit it where its colder (without knowing the rational behind the code its just a guessing game).
All I can say is mine has not leaned out once since. I still have to find time to play with the hot starts (I tune most evenings during the week so I dont have much time to play with my own toys).
Jwick, send me a uprev log of both your sort term, long term, target afr, and rpm if you would like me to take a look at it for you.
Ill get a video of mine idling nice once I take it out next time.

Also fwiw I have my rear O2s deleted since I went to boost. Im on ecutek so I cant modify maps on the fly like you guys can on uprev but I haven't seen any negative side effects to it yet?

To just grab a quick log all you have to do is this (this is by memory so hopefully its a 100% correct, I dont have the cable with me currently to check it)
-Open Osiris Rom Editor
-Check for updates
-It will connect to the car and say ECU Ready after the updates are complete
-click logging and tracing
-On the right hand side of that window you will see all parameters you can select, if you happen to select to many it just wont log and you will be left scratching your head lol.
-I would like you to log the following;
-Short Term Fuel Trim Bank 1
-Short Term Fuel Trim Bank 2
-Long Term Fuel Trim Bank 1
-Long Term Fuel Trim Bank 2
-MAF flow (g/sec)
-Target AFR
Hit the red circle to record and then stop recording and save the log under file.
It will be the same ones that show up in those videos I posted last week.

In my opinion its starting to look like these rear O2s should be deleted and removed once the cats are removed.
