Trust me, license is $150, not $300. Smokeys in Akron has been doing $525 on this platform for over a year. $25 more than IPS in cbus where my friend tuned out of. They too aren't doing all this for only $225. Subis don't need a license, its free open source and tunes run $400-500. If uprevs $300 EVERYONE would be charging way more for a nissan. They're not going to charge the same as a subi yet have to pay more out of pocket.
Both uprev and ecutek sell flashes for $300, maybe your friend has another way of getting them cheaper, just get the license & tune from him and save time and money. I wouldn't drive 10hrs for a NA tune, not worth it.

Osiris Re-Flash License - Engine Management
EcuTek Flash License ONLY – Visconti Tuning
I don't know how people are getting licenses for free (good for them) since there are no open source ones for our nissan since there is no mention of different pricing for different makes and from what I see on forums people can only trade/sell cables not licenses.
COBB software is free with $650 dollar access port purchase, but not programing for our car, only gtr.

well when someone is constantly wrong, it's just the friendly thing to do for the rest of the community, to therefore correct the incorrect party.

and i confirmed that dealer price of a uprev license is right around $195 so my earlier $200ish post was right. so then they charge the retail $300. even as a friend tuning your car i wouldnt take a loss and give it to you $50 under what i paid.

like many things in life, cheap work isnt good and good work isnt cheap.

write that down.

hey sometimes it really does.

i mean going through your albums i'd say the savings were welllll worth the work quality and end results.

OP how much did you pay for a tune? I think we are getting charged just as much as the GT-R guys which is ridiculous. $700 for a tune is to much.

From my understanding I thought I'd have to buy the cable/license for $500 via uprev. And then $300 for the tune. But now I'm finding out.

if the shop is a uprev dealer you don't have to actually buy the cable they can simply tune the car as you stated for $600 by getting the license and then labor now that's not bad. I could do that.

yes. you can buy your own but some shops will still charge you.

i know PTuning or R/T wouldnt drop the $300 license fee for me even when i told them i had my own license and cable. so i went elsewhere with my business.

If you already have a license on your ECU when you come in for a retune you do not have to pay for another license here at R/T Tuning. If the car was already tuned elsewhere you will need to have a copy of the tuned ROM file though if you would like the tune built from your prior tune to save time.

(A Stillen license from their S/C kit is a different story)

Each tuner may have a different hourly rate for tuning but you are on the right track with the licensing.
With Uprev you have 3 options:

1. Basic reflash license that is married to the ECU by an authorized Uprev tuner and then the tune is performed. No need to buy a cable or any other equipment. $300

2. Standard Uprev license: This is a license on a Cipher cable which you install yourself and then can datalog the car and upload emailed tuned ROM files. Mostly done for customers that are being E-tuned. $500

3. Tuner Uprev license: This is a license also on a Cipher cable but it is enabled to allow the end user to tune their own cars via a laptop. $700

i said i couldnt remember who said it was a flat rate of $600 regardless of having my own license. prior to getting my tune i shopped around and talked to many tuners around the area.

Sorry guys was out of town. It won't let me post my dyno sheet no matter what format inuse.
The guy that owned the car previous had a pretty crappie tune on it. I had 301 horse and 258 torque prior to Vince tuning my car again. Only extra mod from previous tune was the test pipes

regarding pricing: 600-700 is the norm from what ive seen over the years of people sharing what they paid.

personally - i paid 600+tax,fflat rate... did about 13 pulls but from what i understand the tuner did/does as much as he could until things were just right. ive had my tune tweaked too and essentially charged another 25$ per dyno pull to make changes when i changed out parts

Pricing I paid two years ago $500 for my NA tune then another $150 to retune with my SC ,
I'm running tunes from Motion Lab and paid 800$ I think but I obviously have the cable and license and paid for the tunning , all in works out to be the same as my tune 2 years ago if you add the cost of the cable in. On thing is no dyno , but eh I can get on done for 50$ When I'm finished

I had a tune on my car already, and mentioned that when I made the appointment, they did my tune and then after the case Vince told me that I did indeed have a tune and license with up Rev on the car. Like I said previously my gains were 25 horse and around 12tq with the new tune after adding test pipes (probably a shItty tune first time from previous owner). I don't have my receipt in front of me but since I had a license already they DID NOT CHARGE ME FOR LICENSING. My bill with pre dyno check (smoke test, etc) was 379 I beielve l. James from R/T can probably tell you for sure. Listen bottom line is these guys are good! You can pay 300-400$ for a **** tune like the previous owner of my car did or you can get it done by people who know what they are doing. And RT does, they were one of the first to do it and have done the most of any other shop. I'll take the quality over the $200 savings everytime, my car ran like dogshit WITH A TUNE! I added test pipes the night before my tune and my car runs amazingly now. You guys can do w.e you want I do recommend them and if you walk thru their shop I guess alot of other trust them too there's about 20 cars there waiting for swaps or tunes.
