The engine bay is flooded with heat. The factory boxes actually pull air from outside the engine bay. If you go to a short ram then you are pulling air from the enginer bay. Short rams are a step backwards.

But you are in NY so those prices might be low. |

Count on at least $500 for a tune where the tuner actually gets in the car. That's probably on the very low end, but please note that getting advice on cost from guys on the internet far away from your location might not be the best numbers for your budget. As Chuck mentioned, post in your regional thread to see if there are some guys with recommendations near you. They might have some more accurate cost estimates for you, but the only way you'll really know is to call up those shops and ask them.

In which case you can re-enable the DTCs in UpRev software and put your cats back on, or use an anti-fouler to trick the O2(many test pipes have this sort of thing built in), though occasionally this can still trigger a check engine light.

I thought you could just buy the Flash without getting it Dyno'd? Personally, the difference of a few hunded to put it on a dyno and get the full potential out of the tune makes sense to me but I thought you could just flash it with pre-programmed settings and be done if you wanted. Almost positive thats what a shop told me...

When getting it done at a shop you typically buy the license which is $300 then they charge you for dyno time. Down here it's about $175hr, so about 2hrs dyno time is about $350. So $650-700 total gets you done.

I can't speak to the K&N setup but the OP was talking Stillen Gen 2.
STILLEN Generation 2 Long Tube Dual Intake Kit With Dry Filter 402851DF | STILLEN These have cold air boxes and are specifically called cold air intakes. Shouldn't be worse than stock. That said, I don't have the gen 2 but was thinking of going that route since I am not really interested in yanking my bumper every time I want to work with the filters.
