The engine bay is flooded with heat. The factory boxes actually pull air from outside the engine bay. If you go to a short ram then you are pulling air from the enginer bay. Short rams are a step backwards.

Did any of you guys get your cars tuned? If you don't mind telling me what did you pay? Just want to he a basic idea of what I might be spending.

Seems like the going rate of just tune (i.e. no cable) is $600-700. If you want the cable it'll be more.

But you are in NY so those prices might be low.

I had a drive tune done. No dyno time but the tuner had my car for a weekend and logged 100+ miles on it. At the time I paid very little for my tune. After my experience, I would gladly shell out $700 for a proper tune. My only bolt-ons are intakes (short ram, Chuck :stirthepot: :icon17: albeit with heat shields at least). I definitely plan to retune when I add more mods, and I will be gladly paying my tuner for his time to drive (and hopefully dyno this time) the car.

Count on at least $500 for a tune where the tuner actually gets in the car. That's probably on the very low end, but please note that getting advice on cost from guys on the internet far away from your location might not be the best numbers for your budget. As Chuck mentioned, post in your regional thread to see if there are some guys with recommendations near you. They might have some more accurate cost estimates for you, but the only way you'll really know is to call up those shops and ask them.

Another problem I have is that I've heard others say they are having problems with emissions after getting uprev is this true?

The tune itself won't make a difference for passing emissions, unless you are using it to disable DTCs, particularly those related to the Rear O2 sensor, which would only be done if you had already removed your cats(i.e your odds of passing emissions were iffy to begin with). Disabling those DTC causes the readiness tests for heated catalyst to show as "Not Supported", which depending on the state and/or specific inspector they may fail you.

In which case you can re-enable the DTCs in UpRev software and put your cats back on, or use an anti-fouler to trick the O2(many test pipes have this sort of thing built in), though occasionally this can still trigger a check engine light.

You need to get a dyno tune. That's how the program works. If you don't have access to a dyno, you can log certain parameters, email them to the tuner and he'll change the map based on what your ecu is seeing. A dyno tune is always better than an Etune.

I thought you could just buy the Flash without getting it Dyno'd? Personally, the difference of a few hunded to put it on a dyno and get the full potential out of the tune makes sense to me but I thought you could just flash it with pre-programmed settings and be done if you wanted. Almost positive thats what a shop told me...

I was quoted $800 by a shop near me for the full tune... I never got it done though..

I just called a reputable shop close to me and they said around $500 to tune the car.

He's said around $500 to tune it I had to supply the uprev so $1000 total. That is dyno tuning.

You need to verify he's a protuner. If he isn't you'll have to buy the tuner version of osiris and its $700 not $500

When getting it done at a shop you typically buy the license which is $300 then they charge you for dyno time. Down here it's about $175hr, so about 2hrs dyno time is about $350. So $650-700 total gets you done.

In the real world with the hood down, it's a hot air intake. The stock intake is less likely to heat soak since it's not metal, and the airboxes pull cooler air from in front of the radiator support instead of hot underhood air. That's why drop in filters and MAF tubes work so well. You're still getting cool air.

Chuck33079, which CAI you will recommend???? I have FI CBE + Res Tespipes, with K&N Typhoon... I am expecting to make the uprev in the next couple of weeks. You think that if I make the reflash with the Typhoon, i will need to reflash again when change to CAI?

I can't speak to the K&N setup but the OP was talking Stillen Gen 2.

STILLEN Generation 2 Long Tube Dual Intake Kit With Dry Filter 402851DF | STILLEN

These have cold air boxes and are specifically called cold air intakes. Shouldn't be worse than stock.

That said, I don't have the gen 2 but was thinking of going that route since I am not really interested in yanking my bumper every time I want to work with the filters.

But if I get uprev can I have a shop just put uprev on the car and call it a day, or do I have to put the car on the dyno and have them calibrate AF along with other things? Someone on the forum was saying after some mods especially intakes the car would run a little on the lean side.

for the running lean part, all you need to do is get a reflash with osiris engine management. i got it done this weekend and it was $300... that's if you don't want to tune your car, which i didn't want to, because i want to get some more parts put on first. At the shop i went to a tune would run me now about another $300. i'll do that when i install another 3 parts :D
