Question for those who drive out of state to get dyno tuning.
Isn't it ideal to get tuned in the environment you are at? Utah has a different elevation, weather, humidity etc than California. So when tuning consummates it's being tuned to the conditions where it at. Then when you reach a different destination, it doesn't run the right way. So for those who get tuned in relatively different climates than the ones of their home. What has happened? Because for all the military who had stateside tunes and brought their vehicles here. They tuning and performance was out of whack and needed a retune. For example out elevation here is 479 above sea level at the track here and humidity is around 90 and temps averaging from 78-95+ degrees on average with a DA of 2,338ft. When cars come here with different tunes that were running great in the mainland, end up having to get retuned via e-tune. Just wondering... |
My problem is no one really does quality tunes for nissans in utah that i have found. Ive been to Guam and humid it is for sure. I think the car should adapt to elevation changes. If it doesn't i figure i have a tune by a master tuner that can tweak the tables for the utah elevation. 4200 ft. I also figure if anything it will run a bit fat at elevation which isnt to bad.

What kind of dyno?
|
How'd u do
|
Guessing
310-319 HP 265-275 TQ But the dyno itself will make the biggest difference. IMO % Change or just change in HP/TQ would be a better poll, but its just for fun so w/e. |
Got back last night from the trip. A little history as it relates to the numbers for those that care to read.
OCT 2013: We had a local shop run a dyno day so I took my stock Nismo and went down. Those numbers were 289 HP and 229 TQ. NOV 2013: I received my Fast intentions goodies the first week in Nov and this time went down to the same shop and payed for 3 runs and got 245 HP and I think 220 TQ. This fellow went on to say "That's what happens when you buy these cheap bolt on exhausts" :gtfo2: So based off of this experience and some comments from some of the Nissan drivers at the HPDE's it was pretty clear that I needed to go or have a remote tune by someone that knew WTF they were doing. I felt Tony had treated me right and delivered a great product and after reading several threads SEB at Specialty Z seemed like the man so I contacted him and we set up a appointment. The decision to drive the 750 Miles was based off of what Seb told me when I asked if there would be a huge difference in a remote tune vs a shop tune. Seb said yes, for him he like to feels, smell and see what the car is doing and so that was what made the decision easy. These are the 4th gear tuning runs. First pull was 302.9 HP and 245 TQ. Seb got out to look at his screen and looked up with a Small grin and said you got a "Strong One". He grabbed his laptop and did his thing for several min. Next run was 313.1 HP and 254.6 TQ :tiphat: Here are the 2 finial 5th gear pulls. 319.2 HP ans 262.7 TQ :tiphat::tup: Very pleased with the results. A couple of observations from my drive back. 1. The power delivery is much smoother 2. The 2 nd to 3 rd and 3rd to 4 th shifts and acceleration are so different from before the tune. Pulls much harder and smoother. 3. California freeways are rough as hell. I think I lost a wheel weight on the right rear. anything over 85 and i would start to get a vibration. 4. Seb is the man. I don't know him other than the 2 hours or so yesterday but, I got the feeling Seb was a no bull sheit kinda guy. Which I like:tup: he will tell you like it is and go from there. 5. After the tune I popped my head into Fast Intentions and spoke with Tony who showed me around. Jesus talk about car candy. DJTODD Nismo was sitting on the lift with motor out about ready to go back in. Another red Nismo RoaltyB I think was on another lift with the motor back in. Tony showed me how the down pipe goes into a 100 cell cat then hooks to the FI exhaust. 6. I got the impression Tony and company loved what they were doing. Tony with a smile as he explained what they were doing and why. The work he has done with the TT fabrication is top notch. 7. With Fast Intentions building, Specialty Z tuning anyone that has had or will have this kit IMO has the best you can get. If your going to do it might as well do it right from the get go. Thanks Seb and Thanks Tony really enjoyed the trip  |
I'm envious of all you guys that have access to SpecialtyZ, Fast Intentions, and Z1.
