WOOOTTT tuned my Z

Hello. I just got my car tuned at Z1 by Jon.
I made 321 rwhp and 263 tq.
mods are gen3, z1 HFC, and invidia cat back.
will post pictures tomo

jlo370z 10-07-2013 10:03 PM

driving impressions?

V8Killer 10-08-2013 05:20 AM

Nice man can't wait to come home and bring him my Z

mag_black 10-08-2013 04:07 PM

Congrats on the numbers. Please posts baseline vs tuned here so we can see the gains.

Z-Girl 12 10-08-2013 06:01 PM

How long did it take? How much did they charge if you don't mind posting or pming. driving impressions? worth it?

chii370 10-08-2013 06:09 PM

wow I didnt expect that much of a change just for exhaust and intake. arent most non nismos dynoing at around 275-280 RWHP stock? seems like one hell of a jump to 321. HOPEFULLY 99% of that power was from the intake and catback, as well as tune. I REALLY REALLY REALLY dont wanna put rasp generators aka HFC's on it just for some power. nice numbers though man, what kind of dyno? what were your base numbers?

chefsung 10-08-2013 10:09 PM

sorry for the late feedback.
Im still waiting for the shop to send me the file"dyne".
what i have done on my car is gen3, z1 hfc, and invidia cat back.
I dont really hear any rasp. my car was really quiet with the invidia. but hfc just made it sound like more of a growl?
it took them about 1:30min. and it costed me 600 with up rev and dyno tune.
Im really really happy and happy that i did what i did.
car is definitely much more smoother, and you know that lag when gassing in first gear? gone!

Gmendez 10-09-2013 02:31 PM

HP Logic?

Sh0velMan 10-09-2013 03:32 PM

Lord, Z1's dyno gets more and more ridic.

NV370z 10-09-2013 05:32 PM

Sh0velMan - Who's dyno do you recommend we all use to get the most accurate results? So far you are not a fan of Specialty Z or Z1 as you have stated their equipment show inflated numbers.

Without an initial baseline run the final HP and TQ numbers are useless. Every dyno in the world will give different numbers on different days under different conditions. A car claiming 320hp and 260tq could actually be making less power than a car claiming lower numbers.

So many people seem to get hung up on these dyno numbers. Track and 1/4 mile times are the only real measures of whether you have actually made your car faster or not.

^^^
All of this.

It is my opinion that the Z1 dyno has about a 6-9% boost over most other dynos as far as the numbers reported on cars with near identical mods and conditions.

I have some stats I've collected over the last year that lead me to believe that there are some very real, very specific, horsepower limits without changes to certain key components which are basically never touched in bolt on builds.

So either Z1s dyno has some calibration creep, Z1 has access to tuning resources that other shops don't (meaning features of Uprev that aren't public and lead to huge gains, which is very unlikely), or these users posting results have secret mods they aren't mentioning.

Just one man's opinion.

:tiphat:

Dyno or no dyno, Jon is an amazing tuner. The customer service and peace of mind knowing I have a reliable car is well worth it to me.
Base n final numbers is all that matters. If u see the gains, drivability is good that's all that matters.
Every car Club forum has the "highest hp numbers" and none of those guys ever go to a Mustang dyno for those numbers. Feels good to see high numbers too haha.

They using std? That's a 4% increase right there.

They use STD numbers which is 4% inflated. It may not seem like much, but take his numbers and take 4% off -- not so impressive now.

Still pretty impressive for the mods he has.

Honestly, with his mods, I would be expecting 299-305 tops. I guess with a stellar tune and good weather, you could see 308 (which is his number reduced by 4%).

chii370 10-10-2013 08:35 AM

Sounds closer to the numbers i would expect. Damn, just when i had convinced myself 3 bolt ons would give me 60hp

Most base/stock z's are at what 275-285? And nismos maybe 10-12 higher? Thats a GIANT leap to 320 with a couple minor breathing mods. Hell i wanna meet this tuner, he must be some kind of ancient car god sent to earth or something.

I agree -- it's good for what he has, but we all know that the next mod won't give him that much HP. Hell, I dyno-ed 301 w/ G3's and FI -- I thought for sure I was going to hit 315 SAE w/ ARTs and tune. I ended up w/ 306 - 308.

My car was heatsoaked and it was 86 degrees out which didn't help. I'm going to install my oil cooler and go back to dyno tune so the tuner will have more time to adjust w/o worrying too much about heat.

edit: or F it all and go boost

RICAN 10-10-2013 01:28 PM

Any dyno sheet yet?

synolimit 10-10-2013 02:31 PM

I wonder how mikes making so much.

mag_black 10-10-2013 04:23 PM

^^yea, regardless of correction, he's still making good power. He has the Z1 power mod?

264/328 with the right correction for him and

Stillen Gen 3
Z1 intake manifold mod
Momentum headers
test pipes
Invidia Exhaust with muffler section removed and replaced with 12" glasspacks
Z1 tune.

That dyno could still have a 2-3% swing.

10MPlayer 10-10-2013 07:18 PM

i'm still pretty much of a newbie to this site. i'm wondering if there's a sticky or something where a guy can look up the meaning of all the two and three letter abbreviations you guys use.
