UpRev tuned @ Granite State Dyno 8/17

I'm starting this thread for my dyno session tomorrow at 9am. I will have a base run w/ FI 18" CBE and Stillen G3's. After, I'll install Motordyne ART pipes and do UpRev tuning.

I would imagine that I'm getting one run w/ the ART pipes before they start tuning, so I should somewhat see what the pipes have added to the party.

forza370z is stopping by and we'll have some before/after videos and dyno sheets. For those that are tuned, please feel free to add some advice.

Things I have so far from searching:

Maps:
Stock
valet
anti-theft
tuned 93
tuned 93 wstar's smooth throttle

Review: Granite State
Alex and the guys were very nice and knowledgeable. I made 3 base runs for $80 and was only charged 1 hour for test pipe install (labor $80/hr). I couldn't complain about that. They made quick work and had me tuning in no time.

Pricing:
labor $80/hr
uprev tune/dyno $500
dyno 3 runs $80
Re-tune/dyno $150

I spoke to Alex a week later about tweaking my tune. I wanted fan control to be changed and offered to have me come in free of charge! If you guys ever want work done, I would highly recommend them to anyone in the NE area. Some other tuners/shops that I won't name, charge $120/labor and a lot more for re-tuning. I was also told that Alex tunes for other big name shops in the NE area.

I made 306-308; My 306 run was the best in terms of performance gains.

Very interested in seeing the results between stock tune and TP/tune. Sub'd

Added base run w/ cbe and intake -- 80 degrees and 50% humidity

Nice.

I'm guessing 320whp, 260wtq after pipes and tune.

Sub'd for results.

Somewhat lack luster for numbers; I'm a bit heartbroken. We install test pipes and got 304/248 and then started tuning around 1:30pm. I'm not going to make excuses for heat and motor being heatsoaked -- it is what it is.

My final numbers never got any better than the 304/248 run which was just test pipes, no tune. A/F was corrected, he tried to add timing but it wouldn't allow more than 30 degrees when somewhat cool and 26 when heatsoaked.

Now w/ all that said, I feel the drivability of the vehicle is better than before. I feel like I have more midrange and car seems more responsive. I know it's not all about peak numbers, but I can't help but feel like I should've gotten more out of it. All in all, I'm happy w/ city driving, but I'm not w/ the numbers.

Maps:
Tuned 93, valet, Tuned 93 w/ wstar's throttle, same as 3, anti-theft. I'll post the sheet up in a bit

Change your filters in december and do some passes when its 50* out or so....then you will see your numbers you want.

Thanks; I'll definitely run it again when it's cooler out.

Rule #1 with anything performance...eliminate heat. I plan on redynoing my z in the winter and I plan on throwing bags of ice on top of the intake manifold along with the coolant line delete from the throttle bodies.

I'm really bummed about the peak numbers. Not so much that they're not high enough, but that they didn't move from test pipe run and when tuning started.

I should have the files tomorrow for upload. For now, I'll post pics.

Depending on what you have on your car for mods tps won't net a lot of hp. When you have ambient temps that are that warm your car will start to cook on the dyno. When its cold out you will see better peak numbers. That's part of the reason you see cars doing dyno's at night at some shops because the weather is extremely cooler and less heat soak happens.

You will probably get around 310-315 once you change your filters and dyno run in the winter but I doubt anything higher than that.

The 2nd dyno sheet I added only has numbers from cbe/intake/tp, cbe/intake and cbe/intake. I should have the other files today to see what the tuning is actually doing. If you look at sheet 1 and then sheet 2, you'll see that two of the sheet 1 runs made it on to sheet 2.

I have no idea what the tuning is doing because it's not sheet 2 at all, and the best numbers of the day are on sheet 2 which is only cbe/intake/tp. That's why I'm really not happy.

Any runs after "runfile_22.drf" (304/248) on sheet 2 didn't make anymore peak hp/tq.

Just curious....what gear were you doing pulls in? Also what was the time between pulls?

mag_black 08-19-2013 01:57 PM

4th and he would do 3 - 5 pulls. He let it rest probably about 2 - 3 times w/ about 10- 15 mins w/ fans on it. I have to look at my videos to confirm, but that seems about right.

When we talked about what was done. They only thing that was mentioned was corrected A/F and adding timing. IDK if I got the full explanation or not.

roy'sz 08-19-2013 03:42 PM

Having the right a to f makes all the difference. The reason you didnt see the numbers you wanted was because it wasn't a direct drive dyno....meanimg he meeded to do 5th gear pull. 5th has a 1:1 ratio where 4th is 1.something to 1. With as warm as it was you should be close to my numbers.
