Problem w/ 5th is I need to exceed 155 mph which hit's governor. That would've made all my other runs in 4th w/o tune kind of useless or would've made all my runs w/o a tune, short.
I think you're right though. Next time I go, I'll run in 5th and then tune it from there. Did you run in 5th or 4th? I totally forgot, but I wanted to remind myself to have him run it once in 5th. |
I had my governor takenn off my car. 5th gear is direct drive. Also what type of dyno was it? Name bramd?
|
DynoJet 224X 2wd dyno. I should have files by tomorrow, tuner is real nice guy and is busy. It'll be nice to see power under the curve. I can definitely feel it; I drove my car and then drove Forza370z's nismo on a closed road and could feel my low - mid stand out more. It revs easier and quicker.
I will say it again; I'm happy w/ city driving. I'm just bothered by peak hp/tq. |
I think you cant exceed a certain speed on the dyno. According to your previous post...in 4th you couldnt hit your target speed of 155mph. I think you accidently got it twisted. On the dynojet I was on I couldnt exceed 163.
If you want more midrange you should consider the motordyne manifold. The runners in it are a little longer creating more midrange power. We habe a similar setup so I can attest that I love the way my car performs. Just remember, the only reason why your car read lower was because of the gear. Also possibly temp. Just curious though what was your targeted hp? |
315/255 and i would've been happy.
I should've done more research. I'm finding things I want to change/add to my tune (mainly fan control). |
5th?? I thought it should be 4th.. I know autos are different but mine is always in 4th.
Not sure about the type of dyno but I know on the mustangs(low) I made 298 WHP and 230WTRQ back when I did my tune with just I:E. But your numbers dont look that bad. |
Below are listed the gear ratios and final drive ratios of the 370Z's manual transmission:
Gear Ratios (Manual) 1st 3.794 2nd 2.324 3rd 1.624 4th 1.271 5th 1.000 6th 0.794 Reverse 3.446 Final Drive 3.692 This should help explain what I said. If you dyno in 5th you get the direct drive power being put to the wheels instead of it being multipled down. |
Most of the tuners I know tune in 4th but make final runs on 5th 1:1 ratio. You should have broken your target whp/trq easily with your setup.

Multiply the torque numbers by 0.787 and you'll have the "real" wheel torque number. This doesn't necessarily apply to Dynojets... the way they measure torque seems to be very different than other dynos, I myself have sheets showing torque in the 260's and I know they were done in 5th, then I have sheets from the next day on a Mustang with power very close and the torque in the 230's. |
So which dyno is considered the most reliable? I always thought it was a dynojet.
|
It is.
|
Still waiting on dyno files. I'm going to bug him again for it.
|
I actually have a few good runs that made 306-308. The power curve on 306 shows the best in terms of performance gain, so I used that and posted it.
