Tunes impact on Warranty
Sure this has been discussed before, tried the search, but no luck. Then read through a bunch of threads.
I would like to get an uprev tune, just wondering were a dealer might draw the line between warranty and non warranty because of the tune. Have there be any reported issues with this or with warranty issues because of things like CAI or CBE installs? Not trying to build a rocket ship, however, would like to get a clean and smooth throttle response, valet, and see if my DD mileage would get above 17.6. Thanks, Jim |

One of the maps on UpRev I thought was the stock map. I don't have one yet but I believe the os ver is diffrent. Or if you can just reflash before she/he goes in.

Most dealers would never know if you've had a tune unless they're looking for it. If they did decide to look for it, they would know - even if you flashed it back to stock.
I've gone back and forth on it myself. I'll probably get one eventually but there's always going to be that risk that you have a legitimate issue and the dealer decides it's not going to honor the warranty. Honestly though, how ofter do you really hear of someone needing warranty work after the first year or so? It happens but it's pretty damn rare. |

Some dealers will deny any powertrain issue that pops up if you've gotten a tune. Some couldn't care less. Talk to people near you and see what dealers will play ball. A dealer can see if you've reflashed the ecu if they look hard enough whether you flash it back to the stock map or not. The best way to do it is to find a dealer near you that won't break your balls about mods. They're out there, you just have to look.

Like everyone else said its 100% up to the dealer... I know guy's who've been denied for an intake... and guys with full supercharged setups getting warranty work no questions asked. If you're wary you can always pick up an Osiris standard kit instead of just getting a flash and tune (PM me) so you can reflash back to stock whenever you need

so even if you flash back to the original map, a dealer can tell? does the ECU keep a flash count? I know VWs do and the dealers can read the count when they hook up to the car for diagnostics.

if you are worried about warranty, avoid the tune. if you go by the adage of "pay to play", tune away. |

I actually brought this up with my local service manager and he told me that they could not tell the difference between a nissan reflash (firmware update, or just reprogram) and an aftermarket reflash, as long as it had been removed prior to bringing it in

Right, but if they see a whole bunch of flashes in that ecu they know you're playing games with them.

Once you get a proper tune and you get rid of the dreaded throttle delay, you will forget all about the warranty. It's really like driving a different car.

Huh? As long as everything shows up as "ready" and there's no lit CEL, TX will pass you. The code for the cats is just turned off.

Nope, TX is easy. Most places won't even do a visual inspection. No lit CEL and you've got your sticker.
