Yeah this is huge. All jokes aside this is something that opens the last door to the 370z..... This changes 90% of everthing that has come out and will only bring SO MUCH NEW STUFF TO THE Z PLATFORM!!! So freakin stoked. I had written off really going at this car aggressively towards an all-motor build. I can see it now, lumpy *** cam, gurgling at a light. Going to have a hard time sleeping for a couple of days.
Dont get me wrong, but if I can tune the radio station to anything, it is all motor music. This car IMO due to how smoothly it revs into the HIGHER rpms, has alot of potential. A good B&B, PNP, race header back to 3" exhaust, G3 intakes, fire breathing intake/exhaust cams, clutch/fly, underdrive pulley, and tune this is a whole new ball game for strip and drag. IMO there is already a 1k HP Z on boost, this is only going to let the guys that are running lower numbers dial back the BAR and be more reliable while producing the same numbers. Which dont get me wrong is great in its own regards. But, all-motor IMO, is what makes a good car, great. |

Valves, springs, retainers, the list just keep going....
I am not saying this will ever trump a properly built boost, but a properly built NA will be just as fun. A blue moon only comes once in a life time. Last edited by Japanjay; 10-06-2012 at 04:28 AM. |

just an info that I got from Jared on the 13th Aug. copy/paste from my email.
No VVEL yet. We have one beta version that a few people have played with, but you have to be very careful because you CAN run the valves into the pistons with too much advance and lift at the same time (there is a interference safety table that should NOT be adjusted). We're also still missing what controls the advance. It's much more active on these engines so it appears to be controlled by a formula not a table. |

No need for that, he posted an email from August 13th...

As posted earlier in this thread the Beta version of this was released for public(I think?) consumption just a few days ago on October 3rd. [QUOTE=O&G;1945463]The man over at uprev said they will have it sorted out jn the next few days. The software was released on the 3rd. They're releasing updates daily for the new software. Everything is still in the beta phase.[QUOTE] |

in my opinion the VVEL tuning is gonna be purely controled by the Pro Tuner cable same as the knonk control that has been out for a while and other small feature. wait and see ! either way im not going back to a VVEL engine !! |

All these non tuners chiming in with their know it all negative comments. Auto body guy, post full of hot air and the ol' I would have heard something.... Lol, Really. Its tuning software for uprevs pro tuners in the test(beta) phase. Its not government secrets banned from the public. I tried to start the thread with accurate information to give the community an idea where we are at with vvel tuning. Uprev is the only company moving forward with vvel tuning and exploration which i think is awesome. The issue rite now is downloading the beta software files not the vvel tuning tabels themselves. As with any type of "tune" if you don't know wtf your doing you will break things. Im sure there will be more news and info coming to us in the next few weeks. Forums are the LOL.

Beta version is probably released for the Pro Tuners not everyone with Tuner version. Guys come one, VVEL tuning has been already done in Japan with their own software like Uprev, and some of the tuner shops there sell ROMs with most of the parameters like VVEL, CVTC tuned. |

Only the true Pro Tuner have an account with Uprev to download their customer Roms/beta test software and other stuff only related to them. I was only authorized since last year to be in their ProTuner emails and get the Pro Tuner cable activated. Last edited by Megan370z; 10-07-2012 at 01:48 PM. |

With VVEL being controlled by a separate ECU than the primary, it is definitely understandable why it took so long to get it to this point. Somehow these two ECU's work in sync to keep the motor running. I think it's downright amazing things have progressed to a point where we are using separate ECU's to handle the valve-train. If we ever get to the point where exhaust valves are controlled by the same system, there wouldn't be a need for cam upgrades, just some experience with a programming tool to make adjustments and the variables would be near limitless. I guarantee something like this will be done and implemented in this decade. With the downsizing and turbocharging of motors, valvetrain is the main culprit for losing efficiency. How easy would it be for manufacturers to use the same head design and just retune the ECU for what they need.
I feel this is the tip of the iceberg and any forward progress now will only pave the way for the future. We don't need cams to adjust our peak power higher or lower in the powerband, we will soon have the ability to do that with a computer. This is why I think even with NA, there are gains to be had, not with a stock car, but one running headers, manifold, exhaust, and CAI, we can tune the VVEL to take advantage of the much better breathing of those components, similiar to how every car manufacturer now is using variable valve timing to create a super scavanging effect with their turbo motors from the factory. All in all, when this is publicly available, I'm all in.

I think most of the benefit in this would be retarding the timing for FI application to minimize boost leaking out during overlap. SC's will be able to run proper exhausts finally!

Back on subject..... hopefully we will get some more news this week about the new software. My tuner is leaving for Cali Wednesday for the race this week, but I'm going to contact him today and see if he can forward some of the email conversations he has had w/ Jared @ UpRev, a Texas company!
