Default When should I get my Car tuned??

Hopefully I dont get flammed for asking this question but I didnt see any threads on it by using the search function.

I know nothing about tunning or when I should perhaps need a tune. Or even what it does really.

I just got a new CB Exhaust (GTHAUS) put on do i need to get a tune??? Also, I will be getting intakes soon as well..Do i need to tune after that????

Any advice will appreciated. In the meantime I will read through some more threads to learn.

EDIT: I also wanted to point out since I installed my new exhaust the car does feel a little different..sort of hard to explain..Maybe not as quick from the get go but then a surge of power.. I dunno.

Tune after you get the intakes-

With intakes and exhaust + tune, you will be able to see much higher gains.. Not to mention the car will run better

I dont know much about the gthaus as far as horsepower goes, but i wouldnt waste my money on a tune with just an exhaust on it, because then when you get intakes, youll have to retune it again

That is normal with these extra breather mods. You gain alot of top end and low either barely changes or you lose a little until you tune. I would say dont tune until all of your breather mods are done. CBE, Intakes, and some form of hfc/tp/lth. Retuning is a waste of money and you will be happier that you waited.

Thanks. I called the guys over at GTHAUS and they said that tunning for their exhaust IS NOT needed in any way shape or form. He gave me a reason but im not able to repeat the jargon that he said

LOL well that is crap. It is just not physically possible. I mean the car could stand to be tuned from stock to begin with. Even if you "dont have" to tune for power gains. Tune for proper afr's, rev limiter removal, top speed limiter removal, better oil cooling, better throttle response and much more.

HMMM, I did not know this. I have read a few places that "tunning" voids warranties...is that true??? I have a long long extended warranty and would not want to void that in ANY way.

Thanks for the help!

It can and it cant. It really is dealership specific. It depends if they want to be jerks or not if something breaks. My dealership is pretty lax when it comes to mods. If your really concerned I would contact your main dealership and ask them, even ask for something in writing if your really worried. Myself I dont worry. If something breaks that isnt related to the ECU then I will fight for my warranty.

I also purchased the extended warranty. Trust me when I say this your going to regret it and eventually return it. It really isnt worth it. The mod bug will most likely bite and bite hard.lol I bought it and its not 6 months later and I have returned it and am ready to go FI. think about it

Mykinda- I understand what your saying. However, I the rational for the warranty was due to the Z being a roadster. I wanted that top covered!!!!....lol

Oh well Im pretty sure that if you tuned your car that they would have on hell of a time declining any warranty claims on the top. Things wouldnt exactly add up haha. Still call them. I dont want to be the guy on the internet who ruined your life with your Z
