UPREV tuning question from noob: ECON??
what does the "Econ map" do when you get an uprev flash.
I plan to install five maps in combo some bolt on's next week: 1 stock 2 Tuned on dyno (expect +30 whp and +2-3 lbs TQ) 3 Econ (but have no idea how this on would work or what it will do) 4 valet 5 anti start/security (for sitting out in a parking lot or something) I know there is a ton of uprev Gurus on here and would love a little technical insight and perhaps predictions of results. right now I get 31.5 MPG on highway with cruise set to 65 (before all mods planed below and shown in my sig...) what do you all think I can expect 65 MPG perhaps???

ECON stands for economy and will tune the car for best gas mileage.

Maybe with your foot off the gas. To put this into perspective. Try and find any sports car (nonelectric) that puts up similar performance to the Z and achieves that kind of mileage. There isn't a 6 cyclinder on this planet that is breaking 40mpg. If you want 65 mpg, you will need a different car. A prius, volt, insight, or any other hybrid might do it, and that's stretching it to the limit.

I believe the ECON puts your car at a bit less throttle response. Not much less, but definitely helps ONLY when you're not heavy footed. Seb@SpecialtyZ mentioned that this helps mostly highway driving under cruising speed.
I see it like the new Prius' with ECO, Normal, PWR. Either the car alters the base maps with each button or modifies the voltage for less response (ECO) to max response (PWR). My girl has one and I actually love this feature.

All tuners are different but most just take away a little fuel at low
Load/low rpms for the economy map.. Some might adjust timing a little but most don't from what I've seen |

You get 31MPG stock? You are joking right? I cant even break 21MPG on the highway. But my cruising speed is closer to 80 MPH, def not 65

This is the main reason for getting 21mpg. Before I got my FCBE I got 27.5mpg (cruising at 65mph). Now with the FCBE I have seen a range of 23.9-24.5mph (cruising at 65mph), but I have not had a good road trip to really see the true mpg for highway. Once you get an exhaust you want to stay in the gears a little bit longer.

oops total typo!!!!!! I meant 35 MPG *not* 65!!!!!! lol
I am surprised though. Really you guys aren't breaking 30 mpg at 65?!? I thought it must be because of low drag and supposed 32 was a normal pre-tune start point. I noticed my efficiency really drops off fast starting just shy of 70 MPH. (I'd have to recheck, but I think it was 27 MPG or so at 70, and 32MPG at 65). I assumed this was a fuel mix map or something which was getting "richer" at about 2500 rpm, and hoped to "stretch that lean map closer to 3000RPM. obviously I don't have an uprev tuner cable and do not really know what I'm talking about here. This is why I started the thread. I'm sure there are a few of you out there that have played with the tune this way. My search for this type of info hasn't really come up with much.

Oh by the way just to reiterate. I love my Z and would rather walk than drive a volt or prius.
Those things are great if you are too lazy to ride your bicycle, but I bought my Z to drive and drive hard. However, I do occasionally find myself drifting for a few hours down a highway wondering if I could put up some efficiency numbers closer to a four banger by tweaking the tune. Maybe this is just another way to beat down the Subaru BRZ in my mind. (Ahh if only it got 35 mpg highway it would be better in every way... lol) I know that constantly varying valve timing and air/fuel mix ratios are going on under the hood (all a bit mysterious to me I hate to admit) somehow tied up in the maps, what I don't know is how much that can help push the Z into fuel sipping mode with the right tune.

I was hoping for a little in-depth info on how the Econ map was different than stock. I was also secretly hoping it did not just put the throttle into some "keep your foot out of it stupid" limp mode, but rather tweaked Fuel/air, or valve timing to squeeze more push out at the expense of torque and horse power in the lower rpm ranges. perhaps I should just go out and get a tuner license from uprev and start tweaking. If I come up with something mind blowing I'll be sure to post it here and on the Prius forums lol.

ECON Sets the max rev to 4200rpm, Optimize the AFR's for hwy driving. Now that being said I never saw any better MPG over my fully tuned map hwy.
