First round of mods scheduled for 4/11/12

Just looking for some advice on my first round of mods + tune I have scheduled on 4/11/12. I will have 1200+ miles on car by then.

I am fortunate that I have an experienced "Z" tuning shop only 5 miles from my house RT Tuning. I stopped in and talked to Eric and took a look @ the shop and was very impressed.

I really want the F.I. TDX Cat Back 12" Resonators / F.I. Resonated Test Pipes but I want to get started now and not wait 12-14 weeks to get my CBE.

I also am going with the Stillen G3 CAI @ the same time I get my F.I CBE.

So for now I am doing;

1. K&N drop ins & Mishimoto Air Intake Hose Kit (Red)
2. AAM COMPETITION 370Z S-LINE SHORT TAIL EXHAUST
3. UpRev tune done on dyno.

RT will re-tune the car and just charge me dyno time when I get my CAI & CBE.

I guess my question is am I on the right path with my first round of mods or should I make some adjustment to the parts I chose before I go through with it on 4/11/12 ?

Thanks in advance for any input or suggestions you guys have.

So far everything looks good, you've got a good shop working with you, you've got a Plan of what you want to do.

With your exhaust and intake idea's, you'll definitely see some gains on the Dyno.

My only observation, not a critique, is if you are planning to get a full CBE and CAI, is it really necessary to get the MAF tubes and short tails right now, to then spend more for the other parts... It's kind of a 'why spend twice for the same thing' sort of mentality vs just saving and getting what you want the first time.

Hopefully we'll see you at some of the PA meets one day. :tiphat:

Maybe not doing the short tails and buying the FI test pipe for sale in another thread for $100 from a member located in philly is a better idea, I sent him a reply saying I would take it.

The MAF tubes & filters are so cheap and I don't think they will hurt.

Thanks for the advice.

The Intakes and Test Pipes will help beef up your exhaust note the same as the short tails would. So you won't really lose anything sound wise, which is all the short tails give you. Performance gains are minimal at best. Every now and then an F.I. CBE comes up for sale used.

Since I was bored and had nothing better to do, I went through the for sale section and found these threads:

AAM Short Tails: http://www.the370z.com/parts-sale-pr...ort-tails.html

Thread items aren't marked as sold so you can start with these. (Notice the price on the short tails, 1/4 the price of a new CBE for tails. :ugh2: )

I am looking forward to having some fun with the "Z" and feel pretty lucky you were able to get me in so quick. As well as having a tuner just a few miles from me.

Thanks for all your help and great customer service the other day.

Got my K&N drop ins & Mishimoto Air Intake Hose Kit (Red) along with UpRev tune done @ RT Tuning today. I am happy with the results, they are a really great shop to deal with & I highly recommend them. Thanks a lot Vince and Eric.

Base: 285 WHP 242 TQ

Tuned: 305 WHP 256 TQ

They are going to install wheel spacers 15mm front & 25mm rear along with Invidia test pipes & re-tune Friday.

Great shop, great guys! @ RT!

you should forget all that and just turbocharge it to H3ll :)

Already in the works man, just waiting to see how Boosted Performance makes out with his build then go with whatever FI solution Vince @ RT suggests I get.

AAM short tails with stock mid pipes will yield little to no gains, you might get a little power out of the intakes hoses and k&n but not worth the tune. Save your # wait for the exhaust to come in and if you're getting the G3's don't bother with the intake hoses and k&n. Patience bud...

Erik@RTTuning 05-02-2012 03:48 PM

We already tuned his car and Joe actually made some great gains for such simple changes.

See you again soon Joe!

I was actually a little skeptic reading how much more responsive & consistent throughout the power band an UpRev tune makes the Z feel but it's like night and day how much better my car feels after the tune. I can't wait to get the test pipes installed on friday!
