For those of you with tunes...
can you feel that much of a difference? i have a cbe, test pipe, and intakes and dropping $600 just to buy the hardware i need to do the tune is a large pill to swallow. im wondering if i did this, if i would be dissapointed or not notice a difference in the butt dyno. i've had turbo cars, and i know tuning them REALLY unlocks some power, however i just dont kno if i will be able to tell that my car picked up that extra 7-10whp. do these things really respond THAT well to tunes, or is it more of a safety thing to make sure your afr's are in check and add a lil quicker throttle response?
anyone who could give me some thoughts or ideas on what to expect from this after all the mods i have feel free to chime in basically... do the ends justify the means...

I had my car tuned at uprev when all i had was hfc's, stillen gen3s, and top speed exhaust. my car went from 298 whp to 307 whp. i honestly didnt really feel a diff on the butt dyno. some people have seen bigger gains than me and some people didnt see any real gains at all. you z and my z could have the same exact modds ang get tuned together and one of us will get more results than the other. only way to find out is to throw that beast on a dyno and tune! but if you have mods like that a tune is always a smart idea to get the a/f ratios where they need to be regardless of gains. ive added stillen shorty headers but have yet to do a retune. gonna wait till i get a m370 before i go back to save $$$

A tune will optimize the performance with all your parts. The average upper end HP gain is about 10-15 HP, but the important things you achieve with a tune are to clean up your AFR and improve low and mid-range torque, which will give you that butt dyno feeling. Other things that can be done during a tune are: alter the redline (if necessary), eliminate the speed limiter, and/or program a valet mode. It is well worth the money, even if your car is stock. If you plan to do any more performance mods shortly, it might not be a bad idea to wait, but if you're done for a while, then get a tune done.

I didn't feel any gains. Top end I gained +4hp. Probably just a peace of mind benefit that my AF ratio is in check.

biggest improvement with the tune is the vastly improved drivablity, that was night and day for me. Power wise, gained maybe around 5-10whp but now the a/f is spot on and like /\ stated above, peace of mind when pushing the car is a good thing, it was way way to rich down low and dangerously lean up top.

I personally didn't notice any change in performance. I thought my car was running very well before the tune and didn't think they would get much out of it. My car dyno'd (with mods) at 300 rwhp before the tune and 306 rwhp after. But now I know everything has been optimized.
The strange thing I did notice was my exhaust note changed... I thought it was just me but the first time my wife got in the car after I got the tune done she said something about the exhaust note as well. I didn't even tell her I noticed a difference until she said something. I don't know why a tune would change the exhaust note...

I agree...in peak power I did not notice much, but the drivabilty alone was worth every penny. I'm only reflashed on a canned COBB map via AccessPort

By far, the biggest gains you will get are with high-flow cats. And with your current setup, adding HFC's would necessitate a tune. And here is the printout thru the power band: http://efilogics.com/dyno/getrundetails.php?runid1=1022

The tune is worth it cause the z is a vehicle you can't just add parts and expect to gain power. The computer has to be adjusted in order to accommodate the new parts. I had my z tuned from uprev and gained 21 whp and 18 tq and I have headers, hfc, exhaust, motordyne intake manifold, gen 3 intakes. Trust me the money is worth it.

Yes.
Before tune, my car made 281whp (On a very low reading mustang dyno) with test pipes, invidia gemini and stillen gen3s. After tune (same day mind you) 301whp.... That said, it felt like a different car up top. Some cars need the tune to set them straight. My car was running incredibly rich, so leaning it out obviously gave it the power it should have gotten.
