Default My dyno results

I took my Z to see Sasha at SG Motorsport to get my car tuned (uprev). I figured he wouldn't get much out of my car because I thought it was running really good as it was, the dyno results show that I was right.

Specs,
Dyno- Dynapak

Intake- Stillen Gen 3
HFC- Berk
CBE- Berk

Somewhat related... I would like to thank Josh at Stillen for all his help. He was always quick to answer my questions re:Uprev, and was able to get a Osiris Standard cable and software out to me pronto!

Looks good. Did you get a baseline before modding or know about what other stock 370Z's put down on their dynapack?

No stock baseline runs. I bought the car with the Gen 3's on it. What you see is all mods before uprev and after uprev.

The shop had told me stock cars are approx 280hp... nothing concrete though, I didn't see graphs to back this up.

All of those numbers are in line with dynojet numbers -- sounds about right, and sounds like that dynpack is calibrated to read about the same as a dynojet.

Looks good, and neither over- nor underestimated -- congrats!

They told me up front that they can get anywhere from 6-15hp from an Uprev. I felt my car was running really well so I didn't expect to get much from the Uprev, which shows in the graph. The important thing to me is knowing that everything is now optimized to work together and I'm getting everything I can out of the car and the mods. Plus knowing I'm putting down a little over 300hp at the wheels doesn't hurt.

I went to SG Motorsport because they are very reputable, honest and are true enthusiasts (check out some of his race videos)! And from what your saying it sounds like I made the right choice. Too bad they're closing.

If you make further changes down the road see if you can find a shop with a dynojet first rather than trying a different dynapack.

Dynapacks can be calibrated to read very close to dynojets, but it varies a bit from shop to shop -- looks like that one was within a few %, so to me those numbers are "correct" (really, any dyno can give you accurate numbers, but consistency from shop to shop is less with load holding dynos).

Anyway, I personally like dynojets for getting "true" measures simply there's not much to fiddle with on them -- everything is based on the speed at which you accelerate the known weight of a metal drum, and that value is consistent from shop to shop (some slight differences between older and newer models and I think between above and in-ground, but no where near the variance you see on mustang dynos between shops).

I might be getting it retuned next spring anyways. I did something stupid for this tuning, the car was running 94 octane. The problem is it's hard to find gas stations away from my house with 94 octane. (I wasn't thinking)

There is a shop just 5 minutes from my house that has a Dynojet. The only problem is... they are into old mustangs, and jacked up mullet cars. They wouldn't know what to do with my car. Now if I knew a thing or two about tuning I would ask to rent the dyno from them. The only other shop in the GTA that does Uprev has the Dynapak as well... hmm. I guess I should start reading up on tuning. lol

Noice numbers, been hesitant on spending the $$ with just about the same mods. Heard would only net a couple whp, but not in your case. Might bust out the $$ soon. How much was the cable and s/w? And did Josh set you up with the h/w s/w?

I bought the cable and software from Josh at Stillen. Just send him a PM and he'll give you a price. I bought it from him instead of Uprev directly because he was so helpful.

You don't need to buy the cable and software to get the tune though. I bought it because I wanted to be able to revert my ecu back to the stock tune in case the car had to go to the dealership for serious work. I live 2hrs away from anyone that does Uprev, if I was closer I would just have the shop change it back to stock when/if I needed and save the money of the cable/software. Having said that, I ended up paying $150 more doing it the way I did, compared to the cost of just getting the Uprev. So it was worth the money at the end of the day.

If you can find a good tuner he may come to you and then you can use whatever dyno you like

Failing that, just go the to the dynapack. Good to learn about tuning, but if you want results rather than an experiment, best to stick with someone who has prior experience to make the adjustments and then learn from them

Going from 94 to 93 shouldn't make much of a difference -- going to 91 might tho'...

I'm just concerned about having to use 91 octane when the car was tuned for 94 octane. Worried about knock, etc.

I'll have to see about tuning/tuners, it's really hit or miss in Ontario... Although my neighbour has a high 6-low-7 second "street legal" 63 Vette, I'll have to ask him who does his tuning.

Ask them how much timing was advanced. From my own dyno expereince, the Z doesn't seem to like much extra timing up top, so it may only have a degree or two -- that should be okay -- but best to check with your tuner.

I've been told that the motor has a pretty excellent knock detection system, and can adjust timing and VVEL to keep the motor running safely, so it may not matter at all.

At worst, it's a simple matter of just scaling back the ignition map by 1 degree at full tilt for extra safety.

That said, if the temps are getting cooler out in your area, you have even less to worry about.

Is the timing something I can check with Cipher or Osiris?
