AFR Readings w/o Tune ... Safe?!?
2007 Infiniti G35 HR Sport 6mt
Performance Modifications: - GTM RTPs - Stillen CBE - Stillen V3 CAI (Pending Install) I’ve researched the forums and noticed that a lot of members are running Pulley’s. That may be something I’d be interested in the future. My question is basically do I NEED a tune? I’m currently running Stillen CBE with GTM RTPs. I haven’t installed my Stillen V3 intakes because I don’t want to run too rich or too lean. Based on your experiences what do you guys suggest? 1. What kind of AFR do you think I’m running now with CBE and RTPs? 2. What if I install my Stillen V3 CAI intakes? (CBE + RTP + CAI) At the moment, I’m more concerned about my AFR than gaining 10-15 whp from the tune. I do plan on tuning in the future (maybe next year) but I want to make sure my car is running right with the modifications. (Hence the reason why I’m waiting to install the Stillen V3 CAI.) How can I measure my AFRs? Any cost efficient ways besides Dyno and AFR gauge? Thanks! |
You're almost definitely fine.
Dyno is cheapest way to see. Tune will optimize fueling for those mods, but shouldn't be at risk for anything as is. |
Tons of guys here are tuneless with full bolt ons!
My suggestion is if you cannot afford a proper tune lay off on the modding. And save up for a tune. |

My tuner says the stillen Gen 3 will make your AFR go out of whack.
