Just wondering, but is the VVEL ECU truly a separate unit? If so, has anyone thought about unplugging the Nismo one and plugging it into a non-nismo Z to see

I have a crazy idea...
Just wondering, but is the VVEL ECU truly a separate unit?
If so, has anyone thought about unplugging the Nismo one and plugging it into a non-nismo Z to see if it affects output on a dyno? Yes, a bit of a PITA... but really, if it just unplugs from a couple of connectors like any other ECU, it's really not THAT hard to test out... Anyone feeling adventurous

I was thinking this too, it would also put to rest once and for all the debate over what contributes to the higher power output of the Nismo. BUT, I would love too see how much a Nismo VVEL ECU would cost if that shows any gains or whether you will need to retune the non-Nismo car.

yeah, just a minute eh??
oh btw man, got a baseline dyno done (made a thread yesterday w/all the info in the nismo section). I don't have the graphs yet but I am going to get the shop owner to email them to me. I'll get them posted up once I do. Made pretty good numbers, more than I was expecting. |

Which is why you swap it with someone who has Uprev! This is the one factor that can't be tuned... swap the VVEL tune and what will we find?

Comapre and contrast... Here, the other two have a bunch of bolt on's plus uprev tune... Green is me (take that, Nismo!!!!) -- but it took intake, CBE, TP, AND a tune! You guys CLEARLY have a big leg up that is not easily accounted for by just CBE, fuel and spark! If a dynojet, would you share the drf's with me?

It's a great idea Jordo, I'll give you a credit for that!
but see, Its not that easy, even if its just plug in, from where we gonna find a nismo Z that are willing to trade stock VVEL with their Nismo VVEL? I can't wait till GTM release their VVEL controller already, My credit card is waiting, waiting and waiting.... |

If the test car is already tuned, it would still be fair. Plus, if it really is a different VVEL tune, you should still see gains but I am not sure how much it would affect fuel trims, timing, and A/F.
