can not just swap the ecu has to be programed for your car. When I first got my car they had to replace my ecu and they had to load it to the car based of my vin. When I asked the guy about it being plug and play he said no that it had to be loaded, when I asked him what if he didn't he said the car wouldn't start just crank over. I don't know the truth behind this because I am sure he never tried it but maybe in there manual it i says that.

That system is in place on almost all newer cars to prevent car theft. If a thief had a key programmed with a particular ECU, they could theoretically break into a car, install their ECU and drive away with the car.

At least I believe that is the reason...
