Canned tune--- Bully Dog tuner
Whats up!
I just wanted to ask Z owner's opinion on boxed tunes. I just purchased the triple bully dog gt tuner yesterday. I called and verified with bully it would work. Ive used one before on a 2009 Altima Coupe. I installed it after header, cat delete, cat back, intake, and stillen pulley. It made it run smoother. I just dont know how well it works with the Z, im asking just in case one of you guys have used it before and had good or bad results. The altima was smoother AFR 12.3- 13.5. They claim 10-15 hp ( up to 20 hp on premium tune- LOL.) I say 5- 10 whp). All I have done to the Z is test pipes. Im just looking to run low 13's in tue quater. Thanks in advance for any and all input. |
370z is not on their application chart....... Now, I'm not too sure if they were assuming 350z and 370z are same cars or not.
I'd try to confirm that again with them. |
Concentrating on a good 60 ft time would probably get you there as is. On average, a stock 370 should trap 103 mph. Test pipes should get you 1.5-2 mph. At 104-105 mph, you should be in the low 13s with a sub 2.0 60 ft.

I was one of their "beta-testers" signed up like 2 years ago and got an email a year later from them. Tested it for a few months last year and it was decent. Got rid of some of the drive-by-wire lag and it "felt" like it pulled a little harder. Also it was a decent device for monitoring things (could read A/F from OBD2). However they never asked me to get on a dyno or anything like that so not sure where they are getting their numbers from.
After having the device for a few weeks I sent them some feedback etc.. and never heard from them again. After installing the SC I don't really have a use for it in the Z, so its going to go in the Cube.. That 1.8L needs all the help it can get. |
thanks
Thank you.
I got it yesterday, I got one of the guys to overnight it for free. I did everything step by step but it still didnt work it gave me an error code and told me to update or call bully. I called and they told me I had to wait till next wednesday for the new update. Ive seen some claims on the internet that the Z is good for 13.7 and some as fast as 13.3. I know how to drive decent, but Im no professional by any means. I just want 13.0-13.4. For example two weeks ago a buddy took his 2011 stang 5.0 to the track and pulled a couple 15's, 1- 14, and the 13.6 was his fastest. I cant vouche for his driving or how hard is to put the power down on a that car. But the car is way better than that according to specs. Now is the waiting game but. Ill let you guys know. |

thanks i'll try it.
Ive launched my car only 2 times since I got 3 weeks ago. Both times at 1500 the first one was a heck of a launch the second it just fell on its face. I think i let the clutch out too fast. Im going to try it couple hundred higher and easy on the clutch. How much abuse can the stock clutch take though?
|
like to see a dyno pre and post install - even better some logs.....

I still have that stock clutch too, sitting in storage. Jnaut (who did the install of my 2010 clutch and jwt flywheel) said it looked still pretty good. and it also drove pretty well when i replaced it. |

Is this any different from the Cobb Accessport that was available for the Z before they stopped making it? The hypertech pocket tuner also falls into this category too, I believe. Any thoughts on which is better/more effective? Also, OP how does the car feel after using the bully dog? Have you noticed any difference? |
Sounds exactly like the hypertech pocket tuner.
Honestly, unless you can actually change parameters (i.e., actually use it to tune!) it's not really worth it. I see it on sale for as low as >$120. I fyou can get it for that low a price, it's probably not a bad deal for the money, but definitely not as good as a custom tune. |
I finally got the bully dog tuner installed yesterday. From my personal experience the car pulls significantly harder specially from 2nd gear on up. The pedal can be adjusted to normal, economy, performance, or extreme. I put mine on extreme and it got rid of ALL the pedal lag Im relearning to drive the car by how much gas to give it in every gear change. The only thing I kinda dont like is under normal driving ( crusing) I need to through the gears alot quicker since it revs twice as fast. In a blink of an eye its already at 2300-2500 rpm. The timing can be advanced or retarded. I can also mess with the afr but I didnt. Because I know Nothing about tuning. With the performance tune installed according to the tuner which its getting its info from the ecm through the OBD connection under WOT it read between 11.9-12.1 in the afr. The timing was all over the place I dont know anything about timing. Also I dont know how accurate or reliable those number are. I wanted to take it to do some dyno pulls this Wednesday but im not going to be able to. I got my z impounded on sat night and a few tickets and that set be back a lot. : (... I wont be able to until next payday, 2 wks. yeah I talk to guys at bully dog and while i was on the phone he asked the tech and the tech said the increase for the z was 6% in hp and in torque it was 9- 10% increase at wheels. On the dyno he said. Hey those numbers arent bad, If they're true. I can only pass on the hp and tq numbers I was told. untill I get it to the dyno myself.

Yes, what it does it changes the sensitivity of the pedal. the car reacts faster to when you touch the pedal. To me it has no delay and more sensitive . Others would say, very little delay and more sensitive.
