lmao . The kid in the evo who saw it owns a barber shop and a lot of my friends go there and people keep asking me about my car and its "flame shooting"

BUT after looking back at my old charts it seems it used to run at about 13 towards redline... now its down around 12... so it is more rich... im not going to worry about it until spring though...

if anyone with tuning knowledge can chime in on the ideal a/f for our cars id appreciate it.. I think I may buy the cipher cable and get some date and start trying to learn to make sense of it.

Bust out the marshmallows dude! Flames out the tail pipes are awesome!

Oh and the flames are just unburnt fuel burning up in your exhaust from running a little rich. A common occurrence on modified cars.

Other way around... retard the timing and it'll cause flames.

My cars shoots flames at times too. It depends on how restrictive your exhaust is and what kind of timing is in the tune. It's not all about air/fuel ratios.

I'm pretty sure this is normal. And IIRC it's cause, is injector over-run.

There is a small delay between when you let off the gas, and when the injectors and spark plugs stop firing. I believe this is implemented from the factory to keep there from being a sudden slamming deceleration sensation when you lift off the throttle.

Since the throttle plate is closed, and very little air is moving through the system, the combustion is delayed and winds up moving far enough back in the exhaust system to see flames (on de-catted, high flow exhausts).

This has nothing to do with timing advance or the air fuel ratio you run while WOT. It is common on WRX/STI's and happens to me all the time.

Rally cars sometimes incorporate injector overrun to function as anti-lag. (there are other methods of antilag as well). When they lift off the throttle, the injectors and sparkplugs continue to fire for quite a while, and the expanding fireballs will keep the turbo spinning.

Flames is normal and awesome!!! I had them with my s2000 and turbo back 3" exhaust on a N/A motor!!! freaking sweet sound and huge flames. what happens is the hot unburnt gas ignites when it reaches the significantly cooler air toward the end of your exhaust. I always joked with my buddies if they tailgated me at a red light I would melt their bumpers I have some pics of a Supra at lil tally that I took and it was throwing out 3ft flames!!! it was EPIC!!!
