Everyone always said the same thing with Honda's. People wanted chipped ECU's with a lower/higher VTEC engagement RPM, but they usually lost power. They would lose so much midrange that when VTEC engaged, it gave the feeling of gains but actually it was the opposite.

IMO it's really only beneficial to boosted setups where people would like to gain spool by retarding exhaust some and advancing intake as well.

Nissan also has emissions and MPG to juggle -- even N/A valve timing may not be optimized for best power.

It all depends on how much air you are flowing...

Add better intakes (especially with FI) and higher lift earlier in the rev range may make gains; speaking of FI, turbos are exhaust restrictions, so playing with cam phasing may indeed help spool up and make more power too.

I have a good bit of experience tuning VVTLi on Toyotas, and there is definitely potential power to gained from adjusting valve timing and lift.

All true.

I think the general point is that this 3.7 V6 is already tuned to 332 bhp from the factory, which is near 100% volumetric efficiency. Not much to gain beyond 105% VE or so.

Yeah, for a totally stock set-up the gains may be minimal -- although no way to know for sure until we can tune it

Is it just me or are you people not realizing that the AccessPORT can also be utilized to capture ECU versions. You could take it to a tuner who then would backup the OE Flash and the Tune Flash onto the AccessPORT.

From what I'm reading is that COBB is no longer gonna waste their R&D $$$$ on NA Platforms that do not get a larger cost2power ratio. But I don't believe it means that it no longers can take a bit4bit backup of an ECU...

Anyone that knows for sure if I'm incorrect, please correct me.
