Oh nos! first post and you are already gearing up for a flame war lol... the only driver error involved will be installing it on a Z...

This thing wont add any power to your car, about all it's good for is recalibrating the speedometer if you change tire diameter. They work well in turbo diesels, but that's about it.

We actually have this on our Z. Yes it give your HP and TQ, of course not the same as a custom tune but enough to feel the difference. They also have installed a map to minimize the throttle lag due to the drive by wire. Smoother throttle response without the dreaded lag that everyone hates.

We are currently working with them so they can make maps available with different intake setups, exhaust and HFC/TEST PIPE combo so you can get the full benefit of your bolt ons. I will keep everyone updated, its still a working process

I agree, not as good as a tune but I can remove it when taking it back in for warranty work. I feel a bit of pep in the car. Same for my friend that has one for his G37.

Nissan does not read every car that comes in for warrenty work. Even if yiu have a code showing up, they just read the code and clear it, they dont check to see if its been modified. And Im not even sure if their diag machine can do that. Your more likely to get grief from then for having a CAI than a tune.

Hypertech is a good company, but even in the turbo diesel world they are known as a low power gain mileage tuner only, not very desirable for most. Also in the diesel truck world, anytime the truck goes to the dealer, even for an oil change, they read your ECU to see if you have tuned your truck so they can FLAG and VOID your warranty. So it wouldn't surprise me to see them start doing that on sports cars.

For someone that knows nothing about tuning himself (not gonna go buying a cobb etc etc) and doesnt wanna give someone his money for a custom tune...
What can that hypertech programmer really do???
performance wise what sort of gains could it really give you?! :S
everyone hated the idea of it so much it just scared me off hahaha

I think the website posts the gains of ~6 hp. So not much. My exhaust and cold air intake was a big increase. I would recommend doing that first. The sound of the exhaust is very pleasing in addition to the hp gains.

I cannot say actual numbers, but I can feel the difference since I have used the programmer. I think the car responds quicker when I hit the gas. The company lists this as one of the features.

As everyone says a custom tune is the best, but it also involves more effort and money.
