I typically use Mobil1, but I do like K&N. However, I do love to cut open oil filters to see what is happening in my engines.
It will be interesting to learn whether this engine can be drained using an oil evacuator as I prefer using them to other methods since they drain more oil. Any time I remove a drain plug I always replace the washer, AND I always use a properly calibrated torque wrench to put the drain plug back in—I never used any air tools on a drain plug; not even to remove it. |

^ Used is a very subjective term. It's is technically used the second you turn the ignition over.
It's not $8 for a K&N its about $14 just to be clear. I often let my Mazdaspeed6 go two changes before changing the filter because it was a cartridge type and a PITA to change. If a piece of metal is lodged in your filter theoritically it will stay there. But more importantly if you have a piece of metal in your filter your engine is coming apart somewhere.

WIX are one of the cheapest filters you can get that is built well. Same manufacture that makes the Pure 1, M1, K&N filters.

I shop at AutoZone, or Advanced Auto Parts. And I bought the filter less than a week ago for $13.97. YOU ARE WRONG. I also checked a few internet sites (which don't do you any good on a sunday afternoon) most are over $14. Once again YOU ARE WRONG!

^^^ Yeah, what the hell happened? I just looked up the K&N oil filter on Autozone.com and it was like $25! That's outrageous!

List is $25, typical purchase price $14-17 and the good deal if you can find it is $8.97. But like I said $8.97 makes no difference if you have to pay $5 for shipping a wait a week for it. I would rather pay the 14 up front and get it when I need it.

I could have sworn the last filter I bought was dirt cheap. I should have bought a crap load of them when Big K was going out of business.

AutoZone and AAP are way overpriced. I just put a K&N HP air filter in my Audi, cost me $45 through Neuspeed. AAP was selling it for $67. I also got my K&N oil filter through them for $8.97 (free S&H). I'm not arguing what you paid JoeyD, just telling you what I paid. I'd work on those anger issues dude. There's no need to shout, we're all on the same page here.

K&N air filters are a waste of money IMO. They're more restrictive than paper filters. All of our dynos were worse by nearly 1HP at the wheels with K&N air filters.
They say on the box "For off-road use only." I know a lot of them say that, but I agree with them. The only time I'll use one is if I'm going back to the dry lake bed racing.
