EcuTek - 'The Way Forward' Initiative

So when you change out your OEM "CAT" to High-flow or test-pipe, if you get CEL, you cannot bypass?
(UPREV) ? I wonder if they are going down the same road? or being forced. |
Everybody knew this was coming.

UpRev? I'm not sure what their status is on the EPA crackdown. |

I thought some people use a “J-bung” on the test pipes so that the sensor isn’t reading the accurate value and so the O2 sensor functionality can remain untouched. Am I wrong? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Ooof, I'm mid tuning process right now with my car and am very worried what this will mean for my setup. I'm hijacking O2 sensors for ethanol and oil pressure inputs, and have a decent amount of DTCs I should suppress.
|
Maybe this will kickoff more standalones or at least open-source options.

So how will this work for those who use Ecutek in different countries where the EPA has no jurisdiction?

The GTR forum has some answers. Link: https://www.gtrlife.com/threads/ecut.../#post-4175966
One of the Q/A from a tuner: Q- Who is affected? A- If you have a non USDM ROM file in your car (JDM, Asia, Middle East, Europe, Australia, etc), this does not impact you in any way. Note the change is USDM ROMs. Not "USA Based Tuners", or "Cars in the United States". If you have an existing tune, this does not impact you in any way. If your vehicle does not have non emissions compliant modifications, this does not impact you in any way. If you are starting a new tune in the end of May, your tune will no longer be able to have emissions codes disabled. |

I'm gonna assume Canada falls in the "USA" category.
|
Just means tuning is going to get more expensive and things are going to have to get done through the can bus. If your tuner is smart this shouldn’t effect any cars tuned before this stupid update. Just don’t update through Ecu tek.

Side note: I'm hoping to go home this winter and finally work on my car, but decided to go with Syvecs |

Well, European/UK ECUs range from $2-600 (converted from GBP/Euro) so there's always a way... or just do like Elmo said and not update/turn off auto-updates if you already have Ecutek.

If the main issue is not being able to disable the O2 sensor then this isn't so big of an issue I think people are making it out to be. For a while now a lot of states didn't allow you to pass emissions with a emissions sensor disabled. NJ I know first hand, mini cats work, and are very inexpensive now days. Prosport has one and I've used bigdaddiesgarage.com and they worked.

Ooof, got a hard stop in the app this morning requiring a firmware update in order to connect to the car. Blocks me from using the dashboard and using my phone to data log.
Anyone else hit this yet? Very paranoid that any update will ruin plans, because I'm currently hijacking the rear O2 sensors for oil pressure and ethanol content. |

I keep hearing about a can bus module you will be able to plug in to get the extra sensor capability.
|
Confirmed over the Boosted VQs FB group that this firmware update is still safe.
