Default The "pull" from Eugene.

I do not want to bother Eugene with this question, so asking it of you guys:
Before I do the below....need to know how much open road I am going to require, how fast will I be going when the ECU cuts power...and lastly...will I know when the ECU cuts power?

You will need to record a "pull", it is recommended to wait until the engine oil temperature reaches approximately 82 deg C or more. Put the vehicle in manual mode (if auto trans). Bring the engine rpm to approximately 2500 preferably in 4th gear (3rd if you need to limit your top speed. Press the gas pedal down all the way gradually, don't stab it, such that by approximately 3000 RPM you are going full throttle. Do not release the accelerator pedal until the ECU cuts power.

Thanks,

Your ECU will cut fuel at the rev limiter. I did this in my Z for Eugene’s tuning on the freeway and was well over 100 when I let out. It was too much traffic to go until the ECU cut out. Eugene was able to work with that log.

Thanks,
You'll need a fair amount of room as you'll be starting the pull low on the rev range which will be way out of the power band, it'll take a while to climb then you'll obviously need a good amount of space to safely slow down. How fast you'll be going depends on your diff gear ratio, I know on mine top of 4th is a little over 120mph. And yes, it'll be very obvious when it hits fuel cut.

I’d probably try to work with 3rd if you can. You’ll still reach way above speed limit but I think I was still under 95. Worst case the cop might be easier on you if you get caugh and write the ticket for 90, 4th gear at 120 your losing your license and getting impounded for sure.

I agree with the 3rd gear pull. And a lot has to do with if you're boosted or NA. You're going to hit the rev limiter a lot quicker and need a shorter stretch of road if you're boosted

Ok!....your replies are inline with what I was thinking....has to be done on a empty section of highway...and will be done in 3rd gear..and my Z is NA.

I have a location in mind where the speed limit is 75mph, probably on a Sunday morning when there is light traffic.

Have to rehearse my lines: Hello Officer...yes, I might have been going a bit fast....but you see....I was data logging....and.....and.....

So I got the first flash of the ECU done. Went out for a drive to see if there were any problems/issues with due to the flash....all was good.
Then thought I would practice the "pull"...see what happens.

Was on a two lane road....no other traffic....stopped...put trans into 3rd gear...brought RPM up to 2500 and attempted to take-off. Could not keep RPM above 2500 as clutch engaged....but got car going, then pressed pedal to floor....holy crap!!....drove over a cattle guard...rear tires spun...traction control lite illuminates....hit pavement again...holy crap!!....saw a red light flash on the tach and saw speedo at 90mph....removed foot from pedal and coasted down to 50mph......holy crap this car can go!!!

Will definitely have to do this on the highway......

Dude you don’t have to start from dead stop in 3rd gear. You should have been cruising in 3rd at 2500rpm then floored it.

Um yea that’s why you should be on a road you know or have scoped out first. I guess everyone thought this would be common sense, your going to be testing the max power of the car so be smart about it.

Why would you think asking questions to your tuner is a bad thing? Thats the best person to answer your questions.

Dude......this would make a story line in a book. I can't believe you actually did this. Wish you would have a video of this.

I asked here as you guys know the Z's driving characteristics instead of asking Eugene.

I "read" the "pull" was from a stop; perhaps that is incorrect.

I know the road I was on very well, normally on my sport bike when I am this road.

What I did not know was the Z's performance....that is why I was where I was to get some experience with my new-to-me Z. I was in control 100% of the time.

I wrote the above to be humorous....hopefully most got a little laugh out of it.

I definitely laughed

The pull should be done in either 3rd gear or 4th gear depending on your road conditions. The time spent accelerating from stop to the correct gear is not part of the pull. When doing the pull you should be cruising around 2500 RPMs and then press the gas pedal smoothly and quickly to reach WOT. Do not mash the pedal to floor suddenly when you start the pull.

JARblue - good to know you got a laugh...again, that was my intention.

Will do the "pull" as you wrote.
