Don’t buy/install NST pulley

Yesterday I had a major issue with NST pulley. This situation totally pissed me off, I didn’t know what to do when it happened and I was scared when I saw it.
Now, chronologically I will describe what went wrong.
First, I noticed scratching/rubbing noise at the front of the engine, I didn’t paid attention on that, as I though that this could be the belt or one of the belt pulley. Then this noise turned to knocking sound and I found that it comes out from alternate pulley. Pulley and belt was successfully replaced, but knocking sound remained. When I suspected crank pulley, mechanic told me that, this is impossible, because it doesn’t have any bearing on. Then I decided to drive out my Z and take care of this sound later. I drove around 3 km (1,5 mile) from the service and suddenly herd a weird metal knock under the engine. I did parked my Z with stiffen steering wheel and called mechanic, hands were shacking! What was my surprise, when I saw a broken crank pulley laying on the bottom.
Likely, nothing gets herd, and I came back to the service with broken pulley and removed belt.
Now, I’m installing back my OEM crank pulley and hopefully the crankshaft will not be dissbalanced (going to check)

Those who already have this peace of sh..t installed - take it off immediately! Those who are going to install - don’t risk and better buy some better ones (like ATI)
Again, likely I was driving my Z in calm way and it happened in service vicinity!

NST pulleys have been **** for along time, sorry about your troubles. Personally I don't feel there are any good pulleys for our car and the couple HP isn't worth the trouble.

Thanks for posting

I've personally have had this happen a few months back.

It was a major pia to remove what was left of the pulley myself with limited tools.

I’m not the first one!
Same thing, the hardest job was to remove what was left

The only aftermarket pulley I would run is the ATI.

Don't despair you'll eventually sell it.

I just saw a response to an old post of mine that says that nst updated the crank pulley and made the arms a little thicker, and after looking at a the picture in this thread, and a picture i saw of yours in another thread, my crank pulley arms do look a little thicker than the ones yall had. But maybe I'm crazy.

You'll be fine. Mine's fine. Recently changed belts and no issues seen.

:rofl2: :hello: ;)

Yup. Probably, but why worry so much? You make a decision to go for the mod and expect it to run forever? I don't. What I do know is I've had mine for 4 years and happy it's gone this long. Look, we drive our cars for fun, we rake up the miles, we drive them "spiritedly", the car gets old. Somethings gonna break. If it does, fix it and replace. Move on.

I would not recommend you to install it! Hang it in your garage and never touch
Sorry made you feel sad, but maybe I saved your engine and your wallet

Yep :iagree: I would not change the pully on a street car. Race Car yes, but daily or even seldom driven street car not worth the pay off or the headache.

$.02 YMMV
