UpRev updated, now it won't detect my cable
Hi everyone,
I've been trying to keep my computer off line so I didn't get anymore of the UpRev updates. I did that because it was working well, and I didn't want to mess with anything. Well, what happened today is that I turned on the computer and tried to flash it back to stock, but it needed to update/download the stock rom, so there went the updater, and now it doesn't recognize my cable. This is exactly the nonsense that I was trying to avoid by not updating. I'm extremely frustrated because I need a working car, and at the moment, the car is blocking all of the other cars in the driveway. Anyway, is there anything I can do? It's already past the time for customer service. Has anyone else been through this who can help me out? Thanks! |
Does this have anything to do with updating firmware? If so, how can I update it if it doesn't recognize the cable?

I'm not sure if this related to your issue but you might want to read this one. |
Thank you for that! It's not exactly what's happening with my cable, but it's sort of more of the same - problems with the new version after the updater ran. This is why I try not to run the Updater.

Just to follow up on this - I spoke to UpRev today, and they determined that since the update requires Windows 8 or higher, then that's the reason why the software isn't recognizing my cable. So I'm off to look at the cheapest Windows 10 computer I can buy. I'll update when I make more progress. In the meantime, I flashed back to my Stillen canned tune, over my previous tune. So now there a chance I lost my license. So when I get the new computer, I can see if I still have a license on my cable. At least I have a working car while I figure this stuff out.

Sorry to hear, but hope you get everything worked out:ugh2:

If you lost your license in the process uprev should be able to look it up for you so you don't get screwed out of that and the tune all at once.

There are new features that need windows 8 to use, but I use windows 7 with no problems....
|
Huh. UpRev said that if the update is done on a windows 8+ machine, that the new update will recognize the cable, and would run the firmware updater, thereby matching the firmware to the software. IDK, at this point, the computer is already ordered, and we'll see if that does the trick. Otherwise, I can always just return the computer or keep it for something else. I've needed a newer computer anyway for the tuning software for my other car anyways.

When you receive the new computer make sure to turn off windows defender before you install you should have no issue's. If you have any other questions you can reach me anytime through email or phone. dustin@uprev.com

Thanks for the response, Dustin. The new computer came in and it still didn't detect the cable. The odd thing is that the cable shows up in Device Manager, so the cable is recognized by Windows, but not the UpRev software. I have been in contact with James and used Team Viewer for him to do have a look. In the end, he suggested for me to just send him my cable for him to test. I'm pretty confident that the computer is fine as is the UpRev software (I uninstalled/reinstalled it several times). So it's either the cable, the dongle, or the license. Either way, I hope James can figure it out once he has the cable in front of him. I will update this thread with any progress.

Update: I got a tracking number from UPS for a package coming from UpRev! Ok, I guess it's on it's way back to me. I haven't heard anything from them otherwise, so hopefully the box has an explanation for what went wrong. My guess is that they just had to plug it in and it update the firmware, and that was it, but we'll see when it arrives. Assuming it's up to date with the latest firmware, then my software should work fine when I plug it in. Hopefully that's it, I'll update on Monday when they expect it to arrive.

Update: I received my cable, and was able to access my old tune. No note saying what the problem was, just a cable that the software recognizes. So that's fine. At least I was able to open my old tune and start to convert it to the new format. After spending a lot of time copying tables over, I go to flash it, and it gives me an error: "CABLE LICENSE ERROR 00" . Great.
Does anyone know if that means my license is toast? It's confusing because if it IS a dead license, I wouldn't think it would allow me access to edit the tune in the first place. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help! |
Hmm.. IMO, that error states that the cable license is invalid.
So nothing else in the box other than the info you stated above. You probably want to check with them again. |
Update: I had to export the license report and email it to them, and then they simply did whatever they do, sent it back, and I updated the license, and it works again. So original problem is sorted and done. Thanks to UpRev and James for working with me to get it resolved.
The new problem is that the new ROM doesn't seem to work. (This is probably going to turn into a new thread if I can't figure it out, but I feel like I've used up my "Bitch about UpRev" post allocation for the month.). Anyway, the problem I have now is that downloaded the new rom for my ECU (JK78C) and copied all my tables from my last good working tune. Supposedly, all the old fuel tables copy over, and you just need to remake a timing map. So I have a reasonable, safe, timing map on there, and it's not giving me any timing. It's barely running at all. When I monitor the timing, it shows 0 to negative 7 DBTC when I tip in the throttle. That's obviously not what I'm asking for, and it's sending my EGTs through the roof while going full rich and dumping fuel. Something in the ROM is not running right, and seems to be triggering some kind of failsafe mode that doesn't give me my timing or fuel. It feels like overly advanced cams, but I haven't touched them. No CELs, so that doesn't point me in a direction. I've looked over all the tables I have available, and nothing seems out of whack. The other very odd thing is that it cold-starts super clean. It feels great until water temp gets to 158-160. So I copied all the cold start tables over to the main running tables, and that didn't solve it. I'm out of ideas, and the car still hasn't been on the road since this whole thing started. At this point, I'l inclined to think it's something wrong with the updated ROM that I had to copy my older tune onto. I'd love to hear if anyone has anyone has any thoughts on this new problem. Otherwise, thanks for your support and suggestions with the previous issue! |
